The youngest of 4 siblings, Helvia came into this world on August 6, 1933, in the city of Bogota, Colombia to her father Jesus Avilan and mother Maria Delores Bulla, who were also born in Bogota. Helvia was the last to survive and finally joined her beloved husband in heaven.
Helvia was formally educated in Bogota, Colombia at an all-girls catholic school, graduating in 1951. She moved to Coral Gables to attend the University of Miami to study English, which is when she met her husband James Wesley Jordan. They have 4 children, along with nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren She is survived by her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with an extended family of nieces and nephews. They shared a life together for 63 years until her husband James passed away on May 28, 2015.
Helvia loved to share her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, so the family is confident that she is at peace with her eyesight and with her husband again whom she missed so much.
