She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers by her side. Even though a failing body took her away from us, her legacy of being a helpful and loving soul will be an everlasting beacon of light.
Born in Haiti on May 11th 1936 to Constant Poitevien and Andrée Rigaud, she was a member of a large family consisting of 7 siblings, ranked by birth order: Ghislaine, Yves, André, Huguette, Marie José, Jean-Claude, Frantz and Monique.
Once married to Mr. Karl Desmangles, later divorced, but is now survived by her son, Ralph Desmangles, daughter-in-law, Isabelle Desmangles and grand-daughter, Amelie Desmangles. Karl preceded her in death on September 28th 2005. She was present at his bedside when he passed at the hospital.
The single mother was known by most to be brutally honest and undiplomatic; she was unmistakably blunt and straightforward. Never sugar-coated anything. She knew she was not perfect, sometimes misperceived by some, but always meant well. She cherished her friends, adored her family and always stood ready to help or advocate for them. Those who got to know her well, learned to appreciate her qualities, accepted her for who she was, and found her to be an incredibly loving and caring human being. Her inner circle discovered her inconspicuous sense of humor and loved spending time with her. She was excessively humble, unpretentious, immensely sensitive but similarly determined and always able to accomplish her goals.
Her interests included gardening, sewing, praying and reading mostly religious materials. She devoted most of her time and energy attending to everyone's needs and concerns. As a devout catholic, she’s always had an unrelenting love for God. As a member of multiple catholic churches, she attended mass several times a week.
The long time Hollywood resident has often partnered with numerous spiritual organizations, prayer groups, charities etc. She was particularly interested in helping children and the poor from around the world, always eager to serve, volunteer and donate regularly.
Ms. Poitevien will undoubtedly be sorely missed and her legacy will forever live on!
Thank you for your support, we greatly appreciate it!
