Imogene Hatfield Redmon, born July 3, 1917, on the Hatfield family farm in Clarkson, Kentucky, was the second of four children of Gilbert and Frankie Hatfield. She grew up alongside her siblings Edwin Reece, James Ray, and Betty Angeline Hatfield Oliver, all of whom preceded her in death. Gilbert was a respected farmer and rancher, and Frankie an industrious and well educated partner in every sense.
From an early age, it was clear that Imogene was not destined for a quiet farm life. After graduating high school, she moved to the “big city” of Louisville, Kentucky, where she met her future husband, Clarence J. “Buss” Redmon. While Buss served in the Navy during World War II, Imogene worked at Southern Optical and waited faithfully for his return.
Following the war, the couple married and set out for the then undeveloped, opportunity rich state of Florida. Buss joined and helped establish his family’s plumbing business, while Imogene became the executive assistant to L.W. Rozzo, owner of a thriving rock quarry and construction company. When the business was later purchased by John Sessa, one condition of the sale was that she remain — a testament to her skill, loyalty, and professionalism.
As Florida boomed, Imogene and Buss built their dream home in the Plantation neighborhood, complete with a wood burning fireplace. Their life together was full and happy until Buss’s sudden passing in 1973.
Widowed but undeterred, Imogene filled her life with travel, community involvement, and a deep appreciation for the arts. She remained devoted to her work and continued in the job she loved until retiring at age 70. Always stylish and full of energy that defied her years, she celebrated her 100th birthday with a lively party at the Jacaranda Country Club. At 101, she checked off a bucket list dream by sighting a humpback whale off the coast of Santa Barbara.
In her later years, life grew quieter, especially after the pandemic. After a gentle decline, Imogene passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the age of 108 — just as she wished — in her beloved home, with her devoted friend and caregiver Maria Hernandez at her side. She is also survived by her beloved niece Patricia Jean Oliver; nieces Joy O’Dea Short and Rae Carol Hatfield Elrod; nephews David Green Hatfield and Michael O’Dea; and many great nieces and great nephews who adored her.
A private memorial service will be held on February 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens located at 2401 SW 64th Avenue, Davie, FL 33317, followed by a celebration of life.
