

James Curtis Gosnell Jr., age 60, of Coral Springs, Florida passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. James was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. James Curtis Gosnell Jr., is survived by his mother, Marion Gosnell, of Sebring, Florida; his sister Cynthia Sutherland and husband David Sutherland, of Arcadia, Florida; his brother Paul Gosnell, of Sebring, Florida; his sister Elizabeth Gosnell, of Sebring, Florida; his sister Laura Kerr and husband Jerry Kerr, of Indianapolis, Indiana; his sister Kathleen Cappo and husband Mark Cappo, of Avon Park, Florida ; and his brother Jeffrey Gosnell and wife Chrystal Gosnell, of Coral Springs, Florida. James will be miss by his ten nieces and nephews, thirteen great nieces and nephews, and many, many cousins, friends and coworkers...... He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine Gosnell, of Coconut Creek, Florida; his father, James C. Gosnell of North Lauderdale, Florida; and his nephew Dana Kerr, of Indianapolis, Indiana.
James C. Gosnell Jr. was born on August 5, 1963 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents James C. Gosnell and Marion Gosnell. He graduated from Coconut Creek High School in 1982 and Broward County Corrections Academy in 1998. In 1982, he served in the United States Marine Corps until 1988, but once a marine always a marine. He accepted a position as a Broward County Sheriff’s Office in the Department of Corrections in 1998 and promoted to Sergeant in 2005, where he worked for more than 25 years.
He married Catherine Smoltino in 2002. She passed away in 2007, the love of his life always.
Jim, Jimmy or GOZ was a social man, dedicated to his family, friends, building life-long relationships. His family, friends, and coworkers will always remember him as being kind and loving with a gentle soul, the proudest marine, and dedicated his life to serving others as deputy sheriff.
A funeral is scheduled for Saturday on October 14, 2023 at 1:00pm Forest Lawn Funeral Home Fort. Lauderdale, Florida. Broward Sheriff’s Office Chaplain will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate James C. Gosnell’s life. The family would like to thank the Broward Sheriff’s Office and United States Marine Corps for honoring Sergeant Gosnell. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to charitable organizations in James’s memory.
