After a long and courageous battle with leukemia, James Joseph Hennessy Jr. died on June 10, 2022, with his beloved wife Allison by his side. He was 54 years old. A dearly loved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Jimmy will be most remembered for his animated spirit, quick wit, and “wicked” sense of humor.
Jimmy leaves behind his wife of sixteen years, Allison Heaney Hennessy, and their three beautiful children, Lily, 12, Aiden, 10, and Riley, 8.
Jimmy grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts where he attended Doherty Memorial High School and Worcester State University. He lived in Boston, San Diego, and St John, USVI, before finding a true home in South Florida where he met Allison, the love of his life. For the last seventeen years, Jimmy worked as a top sales manager at Transworld where he was the longest tenured employee in the company.
Jimmy loved food, family, and football; maybe in that order. He experimented with regional recipes, spent hours watching the Food Network, and recently added an outdoor kitchen to his home in Coral Springs. True to his New England roots, Jimmy was an ardent Patriots, Celtics, and Red Sox fan. He and his family traveled to Rhode Island and Cape Cod every summer to visit family and old friends.
But his greatest joys were in Florida, attending Lily and Riley’s softball games, and Aiden’s basketball and football games. He bragged about Lily’s remarkable report cards, Aiden’s incredible drawings, and Riley’s latest hip hop moves, that she no doubt picked up from her dad.
Jimmy is also survived by his mother, Linda Masterson, his sisters Robin Hennessy and her husband Jim Fiala, Jodi and her husband David Brunelle, Joanne and her husband Paul Krause, Anita Masterson and her husband Carlton Watson, Karen Masterson and her husband Tom Wang, and his brother Don Masterson and his wife Elaine. He leaves behind eleven nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law Lynne Heaney, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were like family. Jimmy was predeceased by his step-father Felix Masterson, and his father Jim Hennessy.
Jimmy’s death leaves a hole in the lives of those who loved him, and he will be terribly missed. With his delicious meals, his infectious smile, and his hilarious tales, he made our world a whole lot brighter.
A visitation for Jimmy will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 at Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home, 4061 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. Jimmy's funeral service will commence on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Noon at Saint Anthony Catholic Church, 901 NE 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. A Celebration of Life will take place in Worcester, MA in July. A specific date and venue will be announced at a later time.
In lieu of flowers or food, the family has kindly asked that Gift Cards be sent. Your love and support to Allison and her family is deeply appreciated during this most difficult time.
It can be a great comfort to a grieving person or family to hear that others thought highly of their loved one, too.
