

Born on January 19, 1927 in the town of Okeechobee, Florida. Son of James . W. Jordan Sr. and Lucy Belle Jordan.
Upon Graduation from Okeechobee High School in 1944, (where he excelled as a fullback on the football team) he joined the war effort with the United States Army. After receiving an Honorable discharge he accepted a full scholarship to play football at the University of Miami. There he met his bride-to-be, Helvia Avilan, a university student visiting from Colombia. Marrying in 1953 they were together for 62 years.
He became a Civil Engineer in 1953 with the Florida State Road Department. He and his crews surveyed for the Alligator Alley project, the missing link of Interstate 95 from West Palm Beach to Fort Pierce, the 7 Mile Bridge in Marathon, and the Sebastian Inlet Bridge. He retired after 30 years from the State of Florida Department of Transportation.
He had a great love of Country Bluegrass music and the outdoors, enjoying many trips over thirty years to his private ten acre camp retreat deep in the Everglades' Big Cypress Preserve with his friends and family.
James W. Jordan is survived by his wife Helvia Avilan Jordan his children James W. Jordan Jr., Robert Jeffery Jordan, Linda Sue Forum and John Harley Jordan, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren with one on the way.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father, highly regarded by his staff and loyal friend. He will be greatly missed. We love and will miss you dad. May God bless!
