James King Jr was born on April 29, 1933, in Macon, GA to the late Deacon James and Henrietta King, Sr. James Sr. moved his wife and two sons to Fort Lauderdale in January 1945. James Jr. graduated in the class of 1952 from Dillard High School.
After his high school graduation, James Jr. enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a front-line soldier until his ‘Honorable’ Discharge in 1955. He returned to Fort Lauderdale, where he met and married his forever love, Annie Mae Jackson. Under this union four children were raised.
James Jr. joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, under the leadership of Pastor Wilson M. Davis.
For many years James Jr. was self-employed as an independent truck driver and ended his working career at Alterman Transport Lines, Inc. in 2005 when he retired. He spent much of his time fishing with his late brother, Isaac ‘Sonny’ King over at Lake Okeechobee, FL.
James Jr. departed this life on February 3, 2022, at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Preceding James Jr. in death were his Wife, Annie M. King, Daughter, Sandra Stevens, Grandson, Kelvin Mercer and Great Grandson, Larry Parks Jr.
He leaves to mourn: three children, Larry Mercer (Skye), Statesboro, GA, Elder Richard King (Marjorie), Sunrise, FL, Janet ‘Jae’ King, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Goddaughter, Evelyn Freeman (Davenport, FL); seventeen grandchildren, Valerie, Victor, Brooke, Krystal (Corey), Lani, Kayla, Olivia, Shirelle, Collette, Tatiana, Ronald, Sonja (Carvel), Andrew (Jahselah), Damian (Lisa), Tuffaria (Chevin), Sabrina (Donovan), Cleftina (Moses); 42 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
James Jr. will be greatly missed by his ‘Ride or Die’ great granddaughter, Gabrielle ‘Gabby’ King and the remaining members of Dillard High School Class of ’52.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home South in Davie, Florida.
James will be dearly missed.
