

Jean Gérald, son of Joseph Volcy and Annette Étienne, was born in Port-au-Prince, Haïti, on May 18, 1949. He grew up in Bel-Air, in a large family. He attended Petit Séminaire Collège Saint-Martial for primary school, Lycée Alexandre Pétion for secondary school, and completed his final years at Collège Les Humanités de Franck Étienne.
Jean Gérald is affable, friendly, and considered a life of the party among his circle of friends. He plays soccer and knows how to play the guitar. He moved to the United States in 1971, where he held various jobs for five years, including working as an employee at a travel agency. At the same time, Jean Gérald resumed his studies and, in 1977, earned a master's degree in business administration from Baruch College (New York).
With his qualifications in hand, he returned to Haiti to give back to his country. He then set up an office with a friend that handled several projects, including document translation. Later, the Haitian-Canadian organization Développement Régional Intégré Petit-Goâve Petit Trou de Nippes (DRIPP), based in Petit-Goâve, hired him as a manager.
Jean Gérald was appointed factory director for administrative affairs at Les Minoteries d'Haïti. For many years, he held a managerial position at the Ministère de la Planification et de la Coopération externe. Over time, he held various roles in the Haitian public sector, including positions as a cabinet member, chief of staff, director of cabinet, and national expert at the Commissariat à la Promotion nationale et à la fonction publique, as well as at the Ministère de l'Éducation nationale, the Ministère de la Santé publique et de la Population, the Ministère du Tourisme, the Ministère de la Sécurité publique, the Ministère de la Justice, and the Ministère de l'Intérieur.
Jean Gérald was also the General Director of Télémax, a television channel in Port-au-Prince.
Jean Gérald was a true lover of life, known for his sharp sense of humor and his gentle, soft-spoken nature. He had a deep love for his family, his friends, and especially for his wife, Agathe, whom he loved deeply. Always valuing the moments spent with them, he was rarely alone, constantly surrounded by those who cared for him, as he had a remarkable ability to bring people together. Jean Gérald cherished gatherings and took great joy in organizing them. He also had a passion for cooking and was an excellent cook, known for preparing delicious meals that added even more warmth to the shared moments. The biggest and most memorable of all were the celebrations held every May 18, on his birthday, which became a tradition of love, laughter, and togetherness that everyone looked forward to.
With his zest for life, he fought against an illness for more than nine years, surrounded by the love, patience, and hope of his family.
Jean Gérald is survived by his wife Marie Yvonne Agathe Bazile, his children Elisabeth, Cindy (Chuck Leon), Rachel (Réginald), Claude-Gérald, Gerry (Yeleen), Kassandra, Jean Guerly (Yvette), Jean Gaël (Zerena), Anne-Clérisse Gaïsha (Jermaine), Loudge, Jay Christopher;
his grand-children, Amaiya, Coralie, Erin, Mahalia, Felix Leon, Oscar Kaincy, Gyanamei, Elza, Gabriela, Alhyssa,Zaraëlle, Gaïa;

A funeral service will occur Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317. A committal service will occur Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2401 Davie Rd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317.
