Joseph spent his formative years in The Brothers’ of Leogane Catholic School. In 1951 he met and fell in love with beautiful Ghislaine Dassy. They were married and their union produced five children; Margaret, Rachelle, Maryse, Helene (deceased) and Irvings.
Anyone who knew Joseph knew that he had a big heart. He consistently looked out for the best interest of others. His heart was filled with love for the children in the community, and as such, he provided school fee, clothing, food, and anything they needed. He taught them Christian values, principles, and virtues and provided the most loving and welcoming home for them. Everyone was welcome into his home and he took the time to make sure they were.
In 1953 he gave his life to Christ through baptism. Over the years, he worked tirelessly as an evangelist. His love for God was evidenced by the love and service he showed to others and his willingness to work for the Lord in whatever capacity he was called to. As a devout Seventh-day Adventist Christian, he dedicated himself in serving faithfully as an elder in his local church. He started many churches in different districts in the West Indies Seventh-day Adventist Conference in Haiti. He was then sent to another district to start another church. He developed a reputation and was affectionately called papa Joe or Pastor. The last church he started was in his back yard and then he helped members purchase a piece of land where they built a church.
Joseph lived a life as a man full of pride, joy, and happiness. He will be remembered as someone who lifted the spirit of others with his numerous jovial stories. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, kind brother, and caring friend. He genuinely cared for others and their well-being. He was a generous man and would not hesitate to give his last dollar to anyone in need.
On Monday, Seprmber 28, 2020 Papa took his last breath and passed away peacefully at Cleveland Clinic Hospital. We are thankful for the positive impact he made in our lives and his memory will live forever in our hearts.
