July 28, 1919 – August 13, 2015
There was not a day in her life that Julia Neufeld did not plan her day around doing and caring for others. Aside from raising her own children, Carol and Ron, after the death of her husband Carl in 1979, Julia was always accessible as Mom to her children’s friends and became in later life the loving nanny and piano teacher for other families’ children, some from their birth through their high school years. Julia Neufeld graduated from Grinnell College where she studied piano and French, being offered a scholarship to the Sorbonne University an honor which was then interrupted by World War II. As a woman of great Christian faith, her benevolent gifts of support included wounded and disabled veterans, the preservation of Medicare and Social security, St. Joseph’s Indian School, Boys Town, The Smithsonian, The National Wildlife Federation, The American Bible Society, Natural Resources Defense Council, The Federation for the Blind and the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists. Letters of gratitude fill her personal album. Julia is survived by her daughter Carol and son Ron and sister Annamarie Burts and husband Richard. She will be remembered as an ideal mother, woman, friend, benefactor, mentor and patriot. All those who have known and loved Julia Neufeld salute her with respect and admiration.
