He was educated at the Golden Grove Elementary School and by private tuition.
In 1943 he came to reside in Dressikie, St. Mary, where he established himself in agriculture. Because of his love and dedication to this profession, he was judged National Champion Farmer for 1966 and 1967 in succession. Visiting agriculturalists were often brought to tour the farm which he had carved from hilly country. In the following years he did not compete in order to allow other farmers to strive toward this goal. This was in keeping with his nature.
In addition to his devotion to agriculture, Mr. Walker found time to serve as Chirman or Committee Member of various organizations in the parish. He was a Justice of the Peace and was frequently called upon to help with many minor medical emergencies in the area. He was a dedicated supporter of the Mt. Angus Baptist Church and school.
Bertie was blessed with 7 children, 8 grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and was married to Hortense (Olive) Bromfield for 49 years. They immigrated to Plantation, Florida in1988.
His sisters tell many stories of his thoughtfulness, generosity and sense of humor during their childhood years, and these traits were very evident in every phase of his life. He was not only a gentle man, but also a gentleman.
He gave his kids a great life and made each of them and his grandkids feel special in their own way. He will be missed dearly by family, friends and those whose lives he touched.
