

Pelaia, Lorelei age 91 of Pompano Beach passed away suddenly on May 28, 2010. Born in Lakeland, she was raised in Daytona Beach until her late 20’s when she met and married Ralph Pelaia, a dentist, and moved to New York where she was active in the local community activities-raising funds for the many charities. Lorelei began volunteering at Holy Cross Hospital in 1960. She volunteered more than 60,000 hours of “spirited” volunteer service, loyal dedication, and a deep commitment to Holy Cross and the Sisters of Mercy. Her service included three terms as president of the auxiliary, assisting nurses and patients. Lorelei set up the hospital’s first surgical waiting area and spearheaded many fundraising efforts. For years she has been the chairman of the Pink Lady Thrift Shop. The hospital’s gift shop was re-named the Lorelei Gift Shop to honor her. Lorelei was the Woman of the Year for the American Cancer Society. She is survived by a son, Ralph Pelaia Jr. and daughter, Stefana Walker. She has 9 grandchildren: Frank Walker, Christopher Walker, Kristy Campbell, Carly Stern, Ralph Pelaia Jr., Anthony Pelaia, Gina Pelaia, Natalie Pelaia, and Daniel Pelaia. Lorelei also has 15 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 2:00-8:00pm Thursday, June 3rd at the funeral home.
