Mr. Mathai Vazhakunnathu Philipose was born to late Mr. Philipose Philipose and Mrs. Mariamma Philipose on August 27th, 1937, in Thiruvalla, Kerala, India. He had three brothers, the late V.P. Varghese, V.P. John, V.P. Philipose, and one sister, the late V.P. Aleyamma. He was born and brought up in a devoted Christian family.
After completing his education, he worked for Kerala State Electricity Board until he retired in 1995. He married Gracy Mathai on December 30, 1969. God blessed them with two children, Mini and Manoj. He set an example for his children and raised them with Christian values and principles. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and took water baptism in 1970. He was filled with the Holy Spirit and continued his journey with the Lord, until the very end of his life.
Along with his secular job, he served the Lord with his whole heart and strength. He was a true worshiper of God. Even when he was in his 80s, he worshipped God with the strength of a 20-year-old, despite the physical infirmities he had. Sharing the Gospel was his passion, never missing an opportunity, everywhere he went. He used his God-given gifts to enrich and uplift others. He was a member of the Karunya Cancer Care ministries, through which he could share gospel and help cancer patients with their material needs as well.
He was an active member of Church of God (Town Church), Thiruvalla, India, and IPC Shalom, Sunrise, Florida. He was well-known for his zeal, love, and devotion to expand the kingdom of God. Everyone remembers him for his powerful spiritual messages, the great songs of faith he sang, his prayers, humility, and unshakable faith in God.
He came to Florida for the first time in 1997 as a visitor and migrated to the United States in 2003. He was the light of the house, and the joy and pride of his children and grandchildren. His children and grandchildren were also his pride and joy. He placed an everlasting, beautiful impression in the mind of every person he met in his life. Even though he was sick for a while, he endured his physical sufferings with grace.
On June 5, 2020, he was called to be with the Lord, whom he faithfully served until the very end. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him, for his sense of humor, his encouragement, his compassion, hospitality, and his sincere concern for his family, relatives, church and friends. He is survived by his wife, Gracy, his children, Mini and Reji, Manoj and Judy, and his grandchildren, Akshay, Merril, and Joel.
Today, we reminisce and celebrate the deep impact of a great life well-lived that will mark our hearts for years to come.
