Please join the family and friends of Ronald Isaac Alix in celebrating a life well lived. Ron lost his battle with cancer on August 29th, 2025. Known for his humor, laughter, and quick wit, he lifted the spirits of family, friends, and yes, sometimes even strangers. Ron loved life; he was a good friend, generous, kind, and creative.
Ron was born on June 12, 1949, in Fall River, Massachusetts. He was the youngest child of the late Mary (née Cabral) and Edmour Alix. Ron was no stranger to adversity. He often said the challenges he faced made him a stronger and better person. Ron learned to build and repair homes alongside his father and brothers. He was able to use these skills later in life.
After graduating from high school, Ron attended the local community college, earning an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. He furthered his education at SEMU, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. He earned his Master’s in Nursing Administration from The University of Rhode Island. Ron spent his career at the Veterans Administration, working in Providence, Rhode Island, New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami. After 38 years as a nursing administrator, he retired.
In 1983, Ron saw an opportunity. He had recently moved to Miami and began noticing homes in need of restoration. Using the skills he learned from his father and brothers, he restored several homes and buildings.
Ron traveled extensively. He grew fond of Buenos Aires, where he immersed himself in the culture and learned to speak fluent Spanish. Often, he spent the summer months in London and Berlin.
A chance encounter at an art store in New York opened up a new avenue of creativity. Ron picked up an art pencil and began sketching. He had discovered a new passion, one that would stay with him until his death.
Ron sold his home in Ft. Lauderdale in February of 2020. He planned to winter in Buenos Aires and travel in the summer months. COVID had another plan. He and his good friend Gail spent eight months in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The desert landscape and skies inspired Ron to resume his painting. Ron’s work is best described as eclectic, colorful, thought-provoking, and diverse. His creativity and vision helped keep him centered during his cancer treatments. He found peace being surrounded by his art.
In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his brothers Michael (Linda) and John. He is survived by his beloved brother Edmour Jr. (Marylou), sister Mary Michaud (Roger), and several nieces and nephews.
In his final months, Ron drew strength from his many dear and close friends, family, and the staff at VITAS Hospice.
Ron would like to be remembered as someone who always tried his best.
In accordance with his wishes, his ashes will be scattered alongside those of his dear friend Gail in New Mexico. No services will be held.
