VaVo e Suzinha Mia filha. I love you meur amor. That's how you would speak to me.You are such a special, important person in my life. You were in my life from day one taking excellent care of me. You were more than a VaVo. That's why I called you Mama as a toddler. I loved living downstairs from you in the first 6 years of my life. It was easy access to my grandparents and Aunt Sao that I love so much. I always felt so comforted and secure in your home. You taught me stability, security, love, kindness, affection and love for animals. You planted the seed early in my life. Even when things were chaotic in my life, I felt safe with you.

I love the memories of folding clothes with you, sitting in your ironing room watching you iron to perfection, following you to the cellar to help you wash clothes, and waiting in the kitchen for you to cook my favorite meal...rice, peas, and shrimp. You always amazed me how you would cook 2 separate meals every day for you and Vovo. I can't even cook 1! I especially enjoyed sitting at the dinner table with you and Vovo and just laughing and laughing.

I loved how your house was authentic. Nothing changed, everything was in its place year after year, never replaced. In a world where everything changes so fast, I could visit you and feel like time stood still. Such a comforting feeling. One of my favorite things to do was flip through your old albums and learn about my history. My favorite room in your house was the attic where I would pretend to play house. It felt like my own little apartment. It helped me to use my imagination.

I'm going to miss your positive, loving, funny phone calls. I saved your voice messages so I can listen to it when I need to hear your voice. I loved your smile that brightened up the room. You were the best VaVo in the world. I am so lucky and grateful that I had you in my life. You set the mold for when it's my turn to be a Grandma. I can only hope that I am half as good as you.

I loved when you would rub my back when I was sick. You went above and beyond to make me feel loved and cared for. I'm not sure if you remember me by your bedside on your last few days here because you were in so much pain. It was the least I could do to repay you for all the beautiful things you did for me. I hope when you took your last breath, that you were not afraid. We both shared that fear. I hope you let go and instantly felt engulfed in peace. 

Oh VaVo I can't say goodbye...I can't! I only hope that you still communicate with me in spirit now. I encourage and invite it. I will say "I'll see you again one day my beautiful VaVo." I know you'll be first in line with open arms, a big smile, and say "Suzinha vem aqui minha fila, e VaVo." I love you VaVo...Va com deus.

Nothing makes senses when someone you love is gone from your life. I will miss seeing your beautiful mother's smile. My life has been touched forever and I have memories that will last me a lifetime.  I am truly sorry for your loss. I know the sun will shine but it will never shine as brightly for you.
