Roxy Leonard Hare was born on December 7th, 1947 in Harewood, St Catherine, Jamaica to his proud parents, Emsel and Lovina Hare. Roxy, a twin to Gloria, was the eldest of five children followed by Phillip, Beverley, and Ester.
He attended Harewood All Age School and later matriculated to Mico Teachers College where he developed the craft to be a master teacher. His passion for learning steered him to the University of the West Indies where he sharpened his techniques in mathematics and obtained a bachelor’s degree. Roxy used his art as a teacher of mathematics to make a difference in his students’ lives at New Day All Age School and at Holy Childhood High School in Kingston, Jamaica.
Roxy was joined in holy matrimony to Karen in 1979. The union produced two handsome sons, Bjorn and Ryan, whom Roxy loved dearly, and when he talked about his sons, there was a bright sparkle in his eyes that time could not diminish.
Roxy’s professional life was as bright as his personal life. He joined Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1980 as a life insurance agent. With Roxy’s increased experience and lifelong love for teaching, he moved to Island Life Insurance as a training officer for the company’s agents in 1985. He later migrated to the United States of America where he joined Aetna insurance Company in New York as an underwriter.
In 1988 Roxy and his family moved from the cold winters of New York to sunny Florida and settled in Pembroke Pines. He became an integral member of the Broward County community. Roxy worked at Bell South in Florida and became a real estate agent. He later went on to obtain his MBA at Nova Southeastern University.
Family was always important to Roxy and he enjoyed spending special time with them. Hobbies that enriched his life included playing dominoes, listening to music, watching sports, and enjoying the pleasures of reading since he was an avid reader.
Roxy was surrounded by his loving family on February 28, 2021 when he answered the call from the Lord and transitioned from this life to his eternal rest. His brother Phillip and sister Beverley predeceased him.
Roxy leaves us with precious memories that time will not erase. He is survived by his loving wife Karen, sons Bjorn and Ryan, daughter-in-law Paola, grandson Lucas, sisters Gloria and Ester, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Roxy has left a void in our hearts and he will be greatly missed.
May his memories live on in our hearts and his soul rest in peace.
