"Mama" • "Granny" • A Woman of Unwavering Faith
Ruth Jackson, affectionately known as "Mama" and "Granny," was born in St. Mary, Jamaica to John Sardio and Mabel Sardio (née Murray). Though her formal education ended around the fifth grade, Ruth's life was a testament that wisdom is measured not by years in a classroom, but by the depth of one's faith, generosity of heart, and love poured into family.
Ruth was a devoted scholar of the Bible, living and breathing its teachings daily. Scripture was the foundation upon which she built her home and raised her children. With gentle wisdom and unwavering conviction, she used God's Word to guide and encourage her family, planting seeds of faith that blossomed across generations.
In Jamaica, Ruth and her beloved husband, Reginald Jackson, owned and operated a haulage contractor business and ran a small grocery store that served their community. In 1991, they migrated to the United States, and in April 1996, purchased their own home, a sanctuary of love, laughter, and countless family gatherings.
Ruth's greatest joy was her family. As matriarch of nine children and their families, she was the heart that held everyone together. Her daily phone calls to each child were threads of love weaving an unbreakable bond. She delighted in sewing and embroidery; skills she lovingly taught her daughters. She cherished her Jamaican Indian culture, loved coffee with Jamaican bread, and sang to her grandchildren with a voice filled with love.
Sixteen years ago, Reginald was called home to glory. Now, Ruth has been reunited with her beloved husband in the presence of the Lord. We have no doubt she is in heaven; her faith rewarded with eternal peace.
Ruth's deepest wish for her children was that they live in peace and stay together united in love, bound by faith, and strengthened by family. May we honor her memory by keeping that sacred promise.
Ruth leaves behind her nine children: Linette (Joy) and Solomon, Donald, Ray and Judy, Annette and Edward, Juliet and Peter, Eula, Vinet and Robert, Carol and Greg, and Valerie and Allan; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
"Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."
