

Stella was born at home in Bayonne NJ on February 23, 1929 to Cornelious Devaney and Elizabeth 'Olive' Devaney nee Dingle. The oldest of 2 girls. They attended Holy Trinity Anglican Church where Stella sang in the choir. Her grandfather James Dingle was the organist and member of the church Vestry, he continued in this role at the church of St. John. Dover, NJ. After high school Olive and the 2 girls settled in Wharton NJ near Olive's sister and brother in law, Jack and Flossie Barron. While working at Orange Screen Company she met her future husband Ralph Davino, and on May 3rd 1953 they were married at Sacred Heart Church Dover, NJ. Their reception was at the Dutton Hotel. Soon after, Stella converted to Catholicism. The couple settled in Dover in an apartment on East Blackwell Street over Phil Grassia's dance studio. Phil and Mary (Davino) Grassia being their in-laws. Stella took courses to attain her LPN and worked for Dr. William Pomerantz in Dover. The couple adopted 2 baby boys from Italy through Catholic Charities. The first, Michael John born Paolo Belmonte in Turin Italy, and later James Alfonso, born Piero Lombardini from Reggio Calabria. With the boys arrival the couple moved into 61 Passaic Street in Dover along with Ralph's mother Caroline. Stella stopped working full time and began teaching Ball Room Dancing at night for her brother-in-law Phil Grassia. In 1980 the couple moved from Dover to Culver's Lake, NJ about 20 minutes west of Dover. After retirement in 1987 Ralph and Stella moved to Bradenton Florida. In 2016 Stella moved from Bradenton to Fort Lauderdale, residing at Williamsburg landing Assisted living facility, and then later to Manor Pines Convalescent center across the street.
Stella was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Ralph Davino. (1/1/2004) And her son James Davino. (4/23/2021) She is survived by her son Michael Davino of Fort Lauderdale FL. A sister Joan (Devaney) Haag of Green bay WI. And many nieces and nephews.
Stella was an avid amateur photographer who loved African violets, her puppies, birds and above all her family.
Stella stood the test of time living with Von Willebrand disease, about which she often tried to make people aware. In lieu of flowers you might consider a donation to Catholic Hospice of South Florida, the Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or your favorite charity.
Stella's graveside service will take place on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Noon at Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Ave East, Bradenton, FL 34203, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Ralph.
