

Sylvia Hinds was born in St. Mary Jamaica to Cyril and Melvina Matadeen on July 07, 1939. She was a trailblazer for her family and a one of a kind, kind of lady. Her formative years were in St Mary Jamaica where she grew up with her brother and sisters. She then married the love of her life Sydney Edward Hinds on July 09, 1965 in Webster Memorial Church, St. Andrew, Jamaica before coming to America. Before leaving Jamaica she worked at Bellevue Hospital in Kingston Jamaica as a Nurse and then continued her education abroad.
Professor Sylvia A. Hinds, MSN, BSN, RN, graduated from Medgar Evers College (Brooklyn NY), Adelphi University (Long Island, NY) and Phoenix University. She worked as a PMH nurse at St Vincent Hospital in Manhattan NY, a Registered Nurse then Professor of Nursing for Florida Medical Hospital for 35 years and also at Broward College and Nova University. She was a dedicated educator for over 30 years. She loved traveling, cruises and going out with her family and friends. Her work was her passion. Being a psych Nurse then becoming a Professor meant the world to her. She received Registered Nurse of the Month and also of the Year at Florida Medical center.
Sylvia Amy Hinds is preceded in death by her parents Cyril & Melvina Matadeen and Sister Pamila May Mattadeen-Pyne.
Sylvia Amy Hinds is survived by her loving and devoted husband Sydney Edward Hinds. Her children; Norris Anthony Rochester, Daniel Edward Hinds and Trisha Elizabeth Hinds. Siblings; Joyce Matadeen-Marzouca and husband Peter Marzouca, Egbert “Sonny” Matadeen and his wife Madge Matadeen. Grandchildren; Natalia Bascombe, Marquice Hinds, Daniel II Hinds, Roy Lee Addison Jr., Norris Anthony Rochester II, Comarey Sydney Grant, Ismail Hinds, Latifa Hinds, Zulaika Hinds, Xavier Hinds. Great-Grandchildren Kahlaya Addison & Isaiah Addison.
Close Family, Nieces & Nephews to include; Methlyn Mattadeen, Kareen Mattadeen-Hall, Michelle Dixon, LaFearn Mattadeen, Suzette Campbell, Christopher Matadeen, Judith Ziadie. Ms. Pauline and Kenrick “Craig” Brown, Dr. Everold Haffazulla, Rose, Tony, Pat, Karen and Lee Mattadeen, Jeralyn Alperi, Judi Moore, Heather Mattadeen, Brian Mattadeen, Christopher Prendergast, Valen Oliver Pendergast, Peter Jones. To our extended families, we love and cherish you always.

Funeral Service Details: Services will be held 12pm noon. Saturday, December 07, 2024 at Forest Lawn Funeral Memorial Garden , 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317. Officiating will be Pastor Trevor of Jesus Team Ministries.
Burial Details: Burial will immediately follow at the same location. Forest Lawn Memorial Garden South with arrangements provided by Forest Lawn Memorial Garden South.
