

Tom was born in Elkhart, Indiana to Lloyd and Barbara Truex on December 4, 1957. He moved to Miramar, Florida and graduated as valedictorian of Miramar High School in 1976. He graduated from the University of Florida College of Law in 1981.
He married Janet on August 18, 1984 at Davie United Methodist Church. He worked as a lawyer for over 30 years, a majority of them at his own law firm. He spent four years as church administrator for Christ the Rock Community Church before working as a world history teacher at Western High School, where he retired after the 2021-2022 school year.
Tom was a valued member of the Davie community, serving as Town Council Member from 2001-2003 and Mayor from 2003-2009. He also served as a board member of the E.A.S.E. Foundation, Inc., and was a member of the Davie-Cooper City Chamber of Commerce. Tom was a very generous person and spent significant time and effort serving various local charities over the course of his career.
Tom loved God and sought to help others know Him better too. He read the complete Bible every year and spent hours each week preparing a lesson for his Saturday morning Men’s Bible Study. He was also very involved in church over the years, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and Men’s Bible Study leader.
Among Tom’s finest achievements is the happy life he built for his family. He was a friend to all and will be greatly missed.
Tom is survived by his wife, Janet, their four daughters Ellen (Charlie), Angela (Ryan), Deborah (Gianluca), and Joy (Charles). He is also survived by his parents Lloyd and Barbara Truex, siblings Deborah (Dave), Theodore (Linda), Deanna (George), Terry (Brandy), parents-in-law Richard and Ethel Postlethwaite, and his grandson Abel.
A visitation will be held from 6pm – 8pm on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, Davie, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Community Church of Davie with the Reverend Diane Gutierrez officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the John & Vera Mae Perkins Foundation, P.O. Box 10773, Jackson, MS 39289.
