Titsang (Ted) Yeung was born to a traditional Hakka family in China on October 6, 1940 to Ying-Pang and Wan-Yee Yeung. Titsang’s early years were difficult as he lived through the tail-end of the brutal Sino-Japanese war where his family lost everything.
They eventually moved from mainland China to Hong Kong in 1949 where he spent his teenage years and adulthood.
Life was difficult, Titsang helped work multiple jobs to help his family make ends meet.
Titsang worked as a substitute teacher and was instrumental in helping his father’s surveying company both in the field and in the office, working on computation and drafting. He completed surveys of many important construction projects in Hong Kong which included the Hong Kong Power & Light Company located on Tsing Yi Island.
In the 50’s through his sister, he came to know Jesus Christ as his personal savior and became a member of Taipo Baptist Church.
In 1966, Titsang married Yim-Sheung Yip, a school teacher, in Hong Kong. A year later, their first child Cathy was born. In 1969, Titsang and Yim-Sheung immigrated to Toronto, Canada for a better life and opportunities.
Shortly after relocating to Canada, Titsang joined the Toronto Chinese Baptist Church. A few years later, two more children (Bruce and Winston) were born.
Titsang continued his father’s legacy to became lead surveyor in the company that he worked for in Toronto. He was most proud of his employment with Ontario Hydro where his surveying work was highly trusted. But working as a surveyor in the field, sometimes in very remote areas, meant many days away from his young family. In addition, his body was no longer able to endure the harsh winter weather conditions.
After some years of persevering through cold Canadian winters, Titsang ventured out, looking to work in warmer countries. He soon found a job working as a project engineer in the Bahamas. Later on, he would join his younger brother Hoi-sang in the restaurant industry in warm and sunny south Florida. There, he also helped his wife to open their own retail store selling Asian arts and gifts at the Swap Shop.
Titsang attended the Chinese Baptist Church of Miami and later transferred his membership to Chinese Baptist Church of Coral Springs because of the distance and to support his daughter Cathy who serves there as the Children’s Ministry Director.
After retirement, Titsang was very active in the Sunrise Senior Center. He made many friends, and helped with many activities and events for senior residents. There, Titsang not only picked up the game of billiards, he started winning trophies for his category and shared tips with friends at the Senior Center. Titsang and his wife Yim-Sheung were popular volunteer instructors for chess and ping pong as well.
Titsang was never a man of many words as he preferred to show his love through his actions. He had a very pleasant and honest nature and a sincere smile. He was always generous to others, but often frugal towards himself. He made and kept many close friends throughout his lifetime.
Titsang’s greatest legacy is his children: Cathy, Bruce, and Winston, and grandchildren: Caleb, Noah, and Elise and his daughter’s many god children.
He is survived by:
