Violet was born on December 3, 1924, in St. Mary, Jamaica. She grew up in Kingston, Jamaica.
Violet married the love of her life, Sydney George Brooks in 1942. The couple settled in Kingston, where they raised their five children; Cedric, Paulette, Yvonne, Geraldine and Sandra. Sadly, a sixth child, Carlton, passed away as an infant due to illness.
Violet spent more than 55 years in Jamaica before relocating to Florida to be closer to her family.
Violet was a devoted and loving mother, and she was very proud of her family. She was an expert seamstress, excellent cook, and an avid gardener. She loved most to spend time with her children and family. Violet loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing meals for her family and friends. Because of her naturally caring character and her nurturing spirit, Violet has served as a mother not only to her children and family members, but also to many other individuals whom she has encountered.
Violet was a dedicated and hard worker. She was everyone’s mother, grandmother, counselor and problem solver. Her sweet and easygoing demeanor won her the trust and hearts of many who have had the good fortune to have met her. Her gift of joy as evidenced in her signature smile will never be forgotten.
Violet modeled Christ for us in extraordinary ways. As the scripture says, Jesus came to serve, not to be served. When we live lives of joyful service to others, the rewards are immense. A devout Christian, Violet was a member of the Pentecostal City Mission Church. She enjoyed the fellowship of church and took comfort in reading her Bible. She shared her knowledge and belief in God to as many people as possible.
