Shirley Watts, 75, of Laughlin, Nevada and formerly of Rochester, Minnesota passed away on February 22, 2024. She was born to Melvin and Helen Nichols on August 13, 1948 in Rochester. Shirley met Bob Watts in 1987 and they were married on April 23, 1988. They built a beautiful life together raising her stepchildren Nick and Sara. She was always there for them and her only daughter, Anita. What a wonderful loving mother, so loved by all. There are many memories of skiing, swimming, scouts, house boating, ocean cruises, and time at their RV on the Mississippi River lot near Winona, Minnesota.
In 1997 she formed a non-emergency medical transportation company (Five Star Transport) serving southeast Minnesota. Her husband Bob, upon his retirement, joined her in 2001 and together they operated the company until 2010 when they both retired to Laughlin, Nevada. There she made many new friends but always had close ties with family and friends in Minnesota.
Dogs have been an important part of Shirley’s life, and Westies were her love having had (3) over the last (35) years. GeeGee now survives and will surely miss the daily attention from her on the morning walks with Bob and throughout the day.
Her talent as an artist was exhibited on many occasions at local art and craft shows. Many of her works have found a home in various parts of the U.S., as visitors in the Laughlin area attended the craft shows and purchased her art. She also loved bowling, which gave her many close friends.
Shirley is survived by her husband Bob; daughter Anita; stepchildren Nick and Sara; sisters Carol, Nancy, Mary, Jenny, Barb, Debi; brother Lance; grandchildren Maxwell, Isabella, Samuel; step grandchildren Alexa, Sharae, Makyla, Tia, Jayden, Jaxson; (7) great grandchildren and (2) great step grandchildren; cousins Leland and Becky and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Helen Nichols, brother Kevin Nichols and grandson Benjamin Schafer.
A celebration of life and inurnment will be held at the VA Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota on June 21, 2024 at 1 pm.
