Alex Stanley Kolodziej passed away at the age of 91 on November 8, 2015 in Ft. Myers, FL after a long period of declining health. Alex was born in East Chicago, Indiana and grew up during the Great Depression. Though not an exemplary student, he was a scholar of the school of hard knocks. He served proudly as a Navy radioman in the Pacific theatre during WWII. He subsequently had a successful career as an insurance salesman for Prudential and John Hancock, and as a small business owner. He was well known among his friends as being gregarious and fun-loving. He worked too hard to have much in the way of hobbies, but was active in his church including participation in the "Clown Ministry" bringing cheer to those who needed it. He was extremely proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, and loved to brag about them.
He is predeceased by his wife Helen (Napiwocki). He is survived by his wife Florence of Ft. Myers; his children Michael (Regina) of Slingerlands, NY, Eric (Mary) of Carmel, IN, Karen (Kevin) of Saline, MI and Jan (Brian) of Spencerport, NY; his eleven grandchildren, Ashley, Ian, Kyle, Peter, Christopher, Katherine, Daniel, Joshua, Joseph, Rachel, and Sarah; and his great-granddaughter Zoe.
Arrangements are through Hodges-Kiser Funeral Home, Ft. Myers. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Columbkille on Wednesday November 11 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Foundation for the Blind.
