Bryce Lynn Christensen, age 64, of Spearfish, South Dakota, passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved wife and three children on May 8, 2025, after a lifelong battle with cancer. Born on April 17, 1961, in Winner, South Dakota, Bryce moved to Spearfish, SD, at the age of four, where his family built and operated Chris' Campground, a place that would become central to his life.
Bryce graduated from Spearfish High School in 1979 and then attended the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree in Business. He was known for his unwavering work ethic and spent 30 years with Farm Bureau Insurance, building a reputation for integrity and dedication. It was at Chris' Campground that he met the love of his life, Lanna, a childhood visitor to the campground. The two were married on May 25, 1990, and in 1991, they purchased the campground from Bryce’s family. Together, they transformed it into a cherished haven, welcoming visitors from all over the world with warmth and generosity.
Bryce and Lanna shared a love for travel, where Bryce found joy in scuba diving and bargaining with local merchants. He was a man of calm demeanor, a devoted husband, and a proud father to Bryanna (Joshua) Neubecker, Bryce Sterling (Shanneal) Christensen, and Brynn Christensen (fiancé Joshua Morford). He also loved riding his e-bike to Fort Myers Beach to listen to live music, dancing with abandon, and soaking up the coastal sunsets.
Bryce was a man of integrity, kindness, and quiet strength. He taught his family to ski, modeled compassion and generosity, and left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Lanna (Cafcules) Christensen; his children, Bryanna, Bryce Sterling, and Brynn; his stepmother, Clara Christensen; his sisters-in-law, Claudia Christensen and Dee Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many close lifelong friends.
Bryce was preceded in death by his parents, Bryce O. and Annette (Hogan) Christensen; his sister, Leanna (John) Hanson; his brother, Loren (Claudia) Christensen; and his nephew, Cody Brown.
The family plans to celebrate Bryce’s life at the end of the summer on Sunday, August 31st, at the Campground pavilion. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Bryce’s memory by sharing a kind word, a heartfelt laugh, or a dance to your favorite song in his spirit.
