Catherine Scrogin Bir, born October 21, 1949, in Bradenton, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2026. The daughter of Jean and Dudley Scrogin, she grew up in Miami and graduated from the University of Florida in 1972 as a Physical Therapist. That same year, on June 16, she married her beloved husband, Mark Bir. In 1975, they made Fort Myers, Florida their home, where she would live, work, raise her family, and build a lasting legacy.
Cathy was a lifelong healer and educator, devoted to helping others through her skilled and compassionate care. She ran a successful private practice, Parkway Physical Therapy, and was among the first to introduce innovative techniques and treatments, such as myofascial release, to Southwest Florida. Her patients knew her not only for her expertise, but for her gentle touch and genuine concern for their well-being.
Above all, Cathy was the heart and matriarch of her family. She was fiercely devoted to her husband, her family, and friends, offering unwavering support and unconditional love. She was the glue that kept everyone connected, always sharing stories, pictures, and updates to strengthen the family bonds that meant so much to her. She was not only a mentor to her family, but was also passionately involved in homeschooling her youngest grandsons, continuing this role up until her passing. She was a patient listener and a calm, reassuring presence in our lives, enduring anything to show up for the people she loved.
Cathy’s faith in Christ was a constant source of strength throughout her life. She found comfort in the assurance of her salvation, and her faith shaped how she loved others—with grace, compassion, and unwavering devotion. Her generosity knew no bounds; she gave freely of her time, her energy, and her love, always putting others before herself.
Cathy found great joy in the life she built with her beloved husband, Mark. Together, they shared a deep and enduring love, traveling the world, embracing new adventures, and creating a lifetime of memories side by side. Through every season of life, they cared for and supported one another with unwavering devotion. It was always the two of them—together through everything.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 54 years, Mark Bir; her three children: daughter Megan Rubio (Stuart), with their sons Ashton, Ethan, and Evan; son Brian Bir; and daughter Erin Paul (Christopher), with their sons Caden and Grayson. She is also survived by her sisters, Susi Coley and Karen Paterno, and their families.
A memorial service will be held on April 19, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., with a gathering beginning at 12:30 p.m., at Hodges Funeral Home in Fort Myers, Florida.
Cathy was beautiful, strong, and a constant source of comfort—a steady presence in the lives of so many. Her legacy of love, compassion, and devotion will live on through her family and all those she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
