She was born Gloria Mae Gibbons on April 3rd, 1947, to the late Viola Dyer and Everett Gibbons Sr. in Warwick R.I. She met the love of her life and was united in marriage to Richard Silvia Sr. in Newport RI on March 20th, 1965. She moved to CT in the late 1960’s and was blessed with three children. Her beloved Rick passed away just recently.
She was a longtime employee of L.C. Doane and Moeller Instrument in Deep River CT. Later in life she worked for many years at Walmart as a retail manager. In CT, she raised her family on the CT shoreline where she was most happy near the water. In 2020, Gloria and Rick moved to Lehigh Acres Florida for the warmer weather and sunshine.
Gloria had a deep love of the ocean and the beach and treasured her shelling excursions. The fishing trips with her brothers Robert, Rick and John were nothing short of biblical.
She loved going clamming on Prudence and Patience Islands and gathering as many steamers and quahogs as possible. She loved her Iggy’s clam fritters. She enjoyed camping with her family, and she loved the large legendary family cookouts and get-togethers, and later taking everyone’s money at the card table. She also enjoyed slots at the casinos, and she would always come home with their money too.
Gloria is predeceased by her sisters Gwen Lynn Teft, Sandra Summers and her brothers Everett Gibbons Jr., and Robert Gibbons Sr. She is also predeceased by her beloved grandchildren Stephen R. Tsolis and Stacey L. Silvia.
She is survived by her three children Richard Silvia Jr., of Riviera Beach Florida, Mark Silvia of Clinton CT, and Tina Silvia and husband Rick Thayer Sr. of Lehigh Acres Florida.
She is also survived by brothers John Gibbons, Rick Gibbons, sister-in-law Denise Gibbons, Godchild Artie Teft Jr. and grandchildren Malorie M. McCullough and spouse Michael McCullough, Makayla Mae Silvia and great granddaughter Mabel Jean Mccullough, and former son in law Christopher Rooke of Griswold CT. A multitude of nieces, nephews and close and lifelong friends will miss her dearly.
A celebration of life honoring Gloria will be held on June 20th, 2025, from 5pm to 8pm at, The Olde Theater Diner, 33 Sandy Bottom Rd Coventry, RI 02816.
We will remember “Ma” and the good times we all shared with her.
