Helen Mary Benson

She was born in Johnsonburg, Pa. the daughter of Adam J. & Mary Izbinski Sopak.

She was a Licensed Practical Nurse who cared for patients privately in their homes.

She belonged to the Meadville, Pa. Business Women’s Association, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Thiel College Women’s Group. Her husband of 52 years, William E. Benson, preceded her in death in 2000. They retired to Lehigh Acres, FL in 1982 and became actively involved at Faith Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Charles) Emery of Lehigh Acres, FL and a son by a previous marriage, Carl Dean (Carolyn) Smallback of Cherry Creek, NY. Grandchildren: Christina (Matthew) Fewox, Rebecca (Julian) Silva, Amy (MJ) Cully, Tommy Smallback. Great Grandchildren: Matthew Fewox, Gabriel Silva, Natalie & Ella Cully & Mark Smallback. Her two sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death.

A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church, 705 Leeland Heights Blvd. East, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church. Arrangements are by Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park.
