Jim was born in Greenville, Alabama to Illa Mae and Reyford Owens. Jim served his country by joining the Navy as a teenager and later joined the Air Force. He retired after 26 years as a veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother in-law, Glenda and Lamar Clark.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary; his daughter and son in-law, Teresa and Richard; sons, Alan and Mark; son and daughter in-law Bill and Gina; Grandsons: Joshua, Daniel, Richie, Patrick, William and Jacob; great grandsons, Christopher and William IV; and his brother and sister in-law, Wayne and Diane Owens. Jim is also survived by many friends and extended family members. He is beloved by all, and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and gentle demeanor.
He will be cremated and inurned in the veterans section of the Lee Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Myers, Florida. A memorial service will be announced at a later date under the direction of Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park. For information, please call (239)334-4880.
