His great-grandchildren are Tristan Graydon, Elaina Graydon, Reagan Roberts, McKinley Roberts, Savanna Cannon, Quincy Roberts, Cooper Cannon, Carter Roberts, and Jimmy C. Roberts IV ("Ford"). Jimmy is also survived by his siblings: Burt Roberts (Peggy), Elaine Flowers (D.L.), Lanier Roberts (Jean), Cindy Harris (Doyle), Dennis Roberts (Glynda), and Trisha Gowan (Harry), as well as many nieces and nephews whom he cared about tremendously.
Jimmy was born the fourth of eight siblings, and he cared deeply for each one throughout his life. This strong bond with family became the foundation of his life—built on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.
He was a basketball star at Marion County High School, where he met the love of his life, Sybil. Jimmy was an honest, hard-working gentleman who honored God in everything he did. He shared the love of Jesus from every chapter of his life: from his early days as a teenage truck driver, to a heavy equipment operator, and eventually a pipe-laying foreman by the age of 20. He helped lay waterlines across the southeastern United States before settling in Ft. Myers, Florida, where he and Sybil raised their children, Angie and Jim.
In 1971, Jimmy began his career with United Parcel Service as a driver. His integrity, leadership, and faithfulness quickly elevated him through the ranks. He supervised, managed, and led customer service efforts across the U.S., including Puerto Rico, and was beloved wherever he was stationed.
After they retired, Jimmy and Sybil enjoyed traveling together and visited all 50 states along with their lifelong dream of visiting the Holy Land. They loved their traveling adventures!
Jimmy could talk to anyone; his sweet Georgia accent and laughter instantly made you a friend! He was a lifelong Southern Baptist and a member of Russell Park Baptist Church and First Baptist Cape Coral, where he was a Sunday School teacher and Deacon. He was quick to share the good news of Jesus with everyone he met right up to his last days.
In their later years, Jimmy and Sybil treasured spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren—a joyful home filled with four generations of love.
Jimmy could build or fix anything: from home remodeling to heavy equipment, from plumbing to brake jobs—and he did it for anyone who asked. He never complained and always wore a smile... unless it involved a computer—then he gracefully retired!
If you had the blessing of knowing Jimmy, you truly had a friend for life—and now into eternity.
Thank you, Dad, for your example of a life well lived—for Jesus, for family, for always. We love you.
In honor of Jimmy’s legacy, we encourage you to take a friend or family member to breakfast or dinner and simply enjoy the fellowship—just like he loved to do. Continue his legacy by loving well and touching the lives around you.
