Nana Karen Savoy, age 84, passed away peacefully in her daughter's home in Sanibel, Florida, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on January 29, 1941, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, to Karsten and Fern (Hodgson) Nelson, Nana spent her formative years in her hometown where her dad, Karsten was the high school principal and she excelled in student activities, cheerleading and was homecoming princess alongside her BFF Kathy Vertin-the two of them continued that friendship up until she went to the Lord.
She married Bob Nelson also from her hometown, before raising her family in the Twin Cities. In 1983, she married Mike Savoy, also from her hometown, and their journey took them to various locations, including a memorable stint in Italy due to Mike's service in the Air Force.
Nana's life was a tapestry woven with diverse passions and interests, including dancing, golfing, her love of sports, and participating in a bowling league. Her involvement in Mary Kay exemplified her entrepreneurial spirit, while her deep commitment to faith guided her values. However, her family remained her highest priority. Whether on vacations, engaged in spirited poker games, or relishing the laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—each greeted with "Hi Darlin"—Nana cherished every moment spent with her loved ones and loved a good party.
Those fortunate enough to know Nana will remember her for her infectious smile and unwavering kindness. A loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she radiated warmth and generosity, drawing people to her vibrant spirit. Fiercely protective and supportive, she nurtured those around her, instilling a sense of greatness and cherishing the time they shared. She sent beautiful cards to many, sharing her love and pride for them.
Survived by; daughter, Tana (Tom) Cachey, daughter-in-law Juanita (Michael, deceased) Nelson; grandchildren Kevin (Jenna), Alesia and Bradley Radowski; Tony, Robert and Anita Nelson; great grandchildren Johnny, Frankie, Harley and Oliver Radowski.
She is preceded by death by her son Michael; her brother Norval; her nephew Michael; and her parents.
Nana Karen will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and devotion will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
