In 1975, Ray met the love of his life, Jan, on a blind date. Immediately recognizing they were soulmates, they married 10 months later. They lived in Northeast Ohio for most of their lives and raised 3 kids. Ray and Jan moved to Florida in 2005; fulfilling a lifelong dream of living in the warmth of the Sunshine State.
Ray loved visiting the beaches, swimming, taking trips, and watching football. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He had a witty sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and a rambunctious side that often got him into trouble.
Ray was a devout Christian. He had a passion for the Bible, educating others, and giving back to the church. He volunteered with organizations such as Kairos Prison Ministry and Crossroads Prison Ministry. In retirement, Ray avidly researched the Bible and wrote two books that he shared with loved ones.
Ray leaves his wife, Jan; his daughters, Laura (Matt) Brockman and Julie (Zack) Nicholson; his beloved grandchildren, Maddison, Declan, Mia, and Ryder; his siblings, Laine (Tom) Garber and Kevin (Terri) Hughes. He is predeceased by his parents; his son, David; and his brother, Leigh. He also leaves behind many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers or sympathy gifts, the family asks that you make a donation to Crossroads Prison Ministry. A celebration of life will be held with details forthcoming.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kiserfh.com for the Hughes family.
