Skip Thinnes...where to start? Skip's Spirit was bigger than Life itself! He was a loving, devoted husband to Alyce, his wife of 27 years, and was doggie-daddy to Hoosier and Sunny. He was the first of 6 children born to Marge and Carl Thinnes in March of 1952, so he had to 'cut the path' for the 5 that followed! He was big brother to Elaine, Pam, Jeff, Gina and Brian and a loving brother-in-law to their spouses, a fun-loving cousin to 33 cousins and loved by all of his aunts and uncles. He stayed in touch with all of them through the years no matter where he lived or where they lived. He was also an uncle to his 14 nieces and nephews and loved seeing them and spending time with them.
Skip had a (sort of) serious side too! He loved his work in Commercial Land and Real Estate sales. At the time of his death Skip was Senior Vice President/Broker Associate with Lee Associates, Commercial Real Estate Services. He truly thrived in this environment and loved the backing and support he felt from those he represented. When we would listen to him share his excitement over the type of 'work' he was doing, it was hard to decipher if it was 'work' or just fun and enjoyment!
Skip embraced all that Life had to offer. While on vacation or out for an evening on the town, he was already planning the next one! And if anyone had the pleasure of enjoying one of his home cooked meals, they recognized that this was a gifted man who understood how to work culinary magic that paired delicious food with the perfect combination of drinks. Included with delicious meals, Skip always had great stories to share and make us laugh!
Skip was the Purveyor of good times and good travel...and good deals! He was the 'go to guy' for insider information on good times. One example: Which entrance # to enter at the San Diego Zoo, at what time in the morning, to get on the right Zoo Grounds Tour Bus, and the "correct side" of the bus to sit on (top deck of course), for the best view of the early morning feeding of the animals, before the sun would be in your eyes! All coupled with where to find the best coupon deals for admission:-) Details all front of mind for Skip!
He knew all of the secrets to maximize vacation spend and vacation fun and he shared with everyone whether he was part of the fun or simply ensuring fun for others. Skip absolutely loved helping others have a great time, whether he was present of not!
Last but not least, we all knew what a sports enthusiast Skip was! Especially when it came to his beloved Indiana University (go IU!). Without fail, whenever he came back to Indiana he included a trip to Bloomington to visit all his favorite places that held great memories for him. It never got old for him! He equally loved his San Diego Chargers and Padres and never missed a game!
His energy, love and excitement will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Rest In Peace Skipper, (but party some too :-)!
In lieu of flowers, Alyce has suggested donations to the San Diego Zoo, which Skip loved and which they were members for 24 years. https://sandiegozoowildlifealliance.org
