I only met Rabbi Bernstein a few times many years ago.  His words to me were very powerful and have influenced me in profoundly positive ways.   I shall miss knowing his presence in this world and look forward to seeing his face in the world to come.

Roni, it was such a shock to hear of Steven's passing. I have enjoyed so many wonderful conversations with him over the past 15 years. He was very knowledgeable in so many different areas. I wish you the very best on your new journey ahead.

A true builder of Israel, who did it with a contagious smile. May his memory be for a blessing.

Though I never got to meet Rab. Bernstein in person, I have been blessed to been under his teaching and tutoring. The way he easily unpacked some of the difficult to understand concepts of the Torah, the way he kept us cheerful with his funny dad jokes, has made my life and the lives of my family who listen in during the shiurim more happier and better.

A Tzaddik's Journey: Honoring our Yeshiva’s Dear rabbi, Rabbi Dr. Steven Bernstein

In the crucible of deep emotion—grief's depth or reverence's height—words change, and every heart speaks in verse, alight. For poetry alone can roam the vastness of our sentiment, touching the depths where simple words bloom to ardent eloquence. In the fabric of existence, every strand has its moment, its meaning. Reflecting on a tzaddik’s life, we honor Rabbi Dr. Steven Bernstein, a thread of deep value in life’s weave. His passing bequeaths a legacy rich with wisdom, faith, and love. In calm, we grasp his essence: a man whose faith was woven with his very soul, an echo of the divine. His life, a spiritual beacon, guided those seeking G-d’s presence. His serene deeds, deep with wisdom, marked him as our mentor and beacon to a higher existence.

He explained the soul’s quintet—Neshama, nefesh, yechida, ruach, chaya—with such clarity, that the ethereal seemed tangible. Yet, for me, these ideas persist as a test. His teachings brought us to the brink of the deep, urging us to think on the secrets that lie beyond our earthly realm. His signature phrase, ‘beyond time and space,’ beckoned us to ponder the mysteries that lie beyond our cosmic shores. A paragon of virtue, his life was a proof to the divine narrative, inspiring us to live in the radiance of HaShem’s glory. He revealed that all matter is but fleeting sparks in the expanse of existence, and time, a fabric of interlaced moments. His wisdom was a gateway to meditate on our place within the cosmos and the Divine’s majestic plan. 

In loss’s hush, we sense Rabbi Bernstein’s parting, not as an end but a heavenly ascent. The skies are richer for his presence. We grieve our guide’s absence, yet celebrate his righteous journey skyward. In remembrance, we embrace his wisdom, love, and humility. His legacy shines, guiding us to eternal truths, as he awaits the ultimate summons.

I am so sincerely sorry for your loss!  It has been a joy to set under Rabbi Bernstein for the last two years in Sunday Shuir, and to say he was a straight shooter is the understatement of the year.

Rabbi took my first call to give approval to me to join the Yeshiva and I am forever grateful.  There are so many things to say but I think the most impactful thing for me and my wife was Rabbi's statement "do what you can" in keeping the commands as the journey back to the Land is long and the exile is difficult.

As a student of URI Africa I consider it one of the greatest privileges of my life to have been able to sit under the teachings of Rabbi Bernstein.  He was so wise and patient and kind and straightforward. I will never forget him. May we continue to shine the sparks of Truth and Wisdom that he taught us.

I pray that Hashem send shalom to all of you. I am very sad knowing that the Rabbi I love and respect is not with us anymore. He explained to us in one of the shiur that when someone pass away, it is painful to the ones who are left behind because the connection in time and space is cut off. I learned a lot from him as a Gentile with a Christian background, trying to learn the Jewish way. I feel a lot of loss, he had a great wealth of information. I admire his sense of humor and patience. We asked all kinds of questions and sometimes felt stupid but he encouraged us. I know that the class will never be the same without him. We knew that he had health issues but he never looked sick or complained about anything painful in his body. I used to say I feel achey but Rabbi Bernstein was a picture of hope, joy, peace and love. I feel bad that I did not get to see him in person. I enrolled in the Yeshiva in 2021, so I am pretty new but Rabbi Bernstein made a great impact in my life. Rabbi Bernstein I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR BEING SO GENEROUS IN SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE TORAH to us, your students and for your life, as an example to us, that we have to live learning and studying Torah because we love Hashem.

Dear Rebbetzin Roni,

The world has lost a true tzaddik in your beloved husband, Rabbi Dr. Steve A. Bernstein, zikhrono levrakha, although he would have said he was not. I remember a couple of times when I said to him, “Rabbi, I cannot…”, and he would reply: “Ah, Tamar, you are a mere human being, just like me.”

For the last six years of my life, I have been one of his talmidot. He has been a godly father figure to me. I met him personally in May 2018 at a Shuvu Conference in Belgium. And right away, he mentioned his beloved wife Roni. I also met him in Rome a few months later, and also in Bogotá. He helped me to think critically every time I came to him with questions. He taught me to think and live beyond the standard box, to think beyond time and space. He helped me to overcome the pain of my mother’s death. I laughed and cried in his Mattiyahu classes. He made complicated concepts easier to understand. He was born on Lag Ba’Omer, sharing his birthday with one of his favorite sages, the Rashbi. As Lag Ba’Omer was approaching, he used to teach us: “Thanks to his willpower, he was able to keep the light of the Torah alive. That is why we light bonfires on Lag B'Omer. And we dance and sing about the Rashbi, and we celebrate that the Torah is still alive in the world today because of Rashbi. Without him, the light of the Torah would have been extinguished.”. And I celebrate the life of Rabbi Dr. Steven Bernstein. I am where I am today in my walk with HaShem thanks to him. Thank you, Rebbetzin Roni, for sharing him with so many of us.

It was such a joy to hear Rabbi speak of how much he loved you. You were such a blessing and a delight to him. Thank you for lending him to us in the Yeshiva. I learned so much from him. I am a talmidim from Zimbabwe and I was not one of his students in the Shiur but I was exposed to his teachings and met him once when I attended a conference hosted by Ahavat Ammi in USA. I found rabbi Bernstein very solid in his teachings and in many ways, he helped me to understand Truth as originally revealed to the sages.  I found him pleasant. May Rebetsina Roni and the family be strengthened and may his memory always be remembered even in nations he never set foot in. May you be strengthened to continue with the good work he was involved in through Ahavat Ammi Ministries.

I never got to meet Rabbi Bernstein personally, but through his online classes, I could see the love that he had for teaching and for G-d, how much he has impacted and will impact many lives, bringing happiness, joy and knowledge of the Torah through his teachings. If one could be so blessed to study under someone who was on one hand a great, respected, and zealous Torah scholar , while on the other has the warm, witty, loving, and inviting countenance like that of a beloved father (or grandfather if you were 15 like I was when I first met him in the Yeshiva), then you would have a Rabbi Bernstein. He had a beautiful way of teaching that made one feel like they were being brought to a table of royalty laid with rich, beautiful, powerful Jewish history and Torah knowledge. I can not forget his warm, sweet smile during his shiurim that just testified at how much he loved having Torah on his lips and how much he lives for sharing it. 
While in this moment the feelings of sadness and deep loss caused many to feel the world shake a little bit, I can’t help going back and forth from tears to smiling. It is impossible to stay sad when thinking of him because he was never one to despair despite whatever hardship that came, causing life to be a little shaky. Like a fiddler on a roof 🎻- he modeled strength, great emunah, and trust in Hashem by clinging to Torah and holding onto “traditioooooon, tradition!”
 I have only gratitude and praise to HaShem for the incredible gift it is to have learned from him. His presence at mine and my husbands wedding was one of the greatest honors and gifts, he and Rebetzin Roni blessed us deeply and their testimony of a beautiful and happy marriage which he spoke of so often will absolutely echo blessing into future generations. 

May HaShem bless and comfort his lovely bride (as I heard him refer to her so often when he spoke) and cause his soul to ascend and be joined with all the righteous of Israel who lead the way. He is surely doing the bottle-hat dance down the streets of the heavenly Jerusalem he loved so much. May his memory continue to be a blessing. Am Yisrael Chai.

Dear Roni, dear family,y prayers, my thoughts, but so much more my thanksgiving to HaShem to have him as my beloved rabbi!! Sadness! 🙏🙏🙏I’m so sad and shocked and bewilderment after hearing the message of the passing of my beloved rabbi. Bernstein. Rabbis kind teaching and his love for the Torah but also for Yeshua and His teachings mean so much for my understanding of the whole Bible  ans so for my walking here on earth with my family and friends and adversary even so. and gives fundamentally ground for my believe and view of the Jewishness of the whole Bible and specially Yeshua my Jewish Massiah. My wife Shelia and I are students in the Uri program in Shuvu.
We benefited from his teaching of the Torah on Sundays via Zoom and my wife also was able to participate in the Wednesday Matthew class. Rabbi Bernstein has  had  a huge impact on our lives , teaching us how to study Torah as well as imparting wisdom for daily living and marriage. He emphasized to us that the main thing is to do the mitzvot. He will be greatly missed . May G-d comfort you during this difficult time.

He shed new light on things  that are obvious and opened up our understanding to things we couldn’t fathom. 

He was like a magician. 

I am greatly privileged to know him as a Torah Teacher who taught great Jewish values. He didn’t teach stuff. He imparted vision and values that is shaping generations.

Values that of being relentless in pursuit of G-d , but not getting overwhelmed in the process of doing so.

And there is a  multitude of stalwarts of faith who are cheering on for us to finish our race . And I’m glad there’s going to be a familiar face I’d know.  With a big smile on his face, and that goofy voice cheering on, probably dancing with a bottle on his head. 

Rabbi Bernstein IS a humble man. Unapologetic about his human frailty, but always confident in his love for G-d.

In many occasions I have heard him say he wanted to be recognised as an ordinary man , rather than as an esteemed Torah Scholar. A true Leader and a Gem of a person!

Rabbi Bernstein had the incredible gift of taking all his knowledge, understanding and wisdom and breaking it down to its simplest form so that everyone in class could understand the incredible truths he was depositing in us. He was able to do this because he was filled with simcha, a spirit of holiness and love for Yeshua.

Dear Mr. Rebezzin Bernstein,

My name is Cäcilia Dietze, living with my family in Israel and we are connected to Yeshivat Shuvu since about 3 years. I highly appreciated the teachings of Rabbi Bernstein, but more so, always when I saw him, I wanted very much to get to know him in person. Never have met  him, still he resembled for me a kind of father figure, I never had and would have wished to have: warm, kind, knowledgeable in the word of God and teaching his family the ways of God and the Torah in a way everyone could understand it. 
This is his memory, may it blessed now and in the world to come. May you and all the family be comforted amongst the mourners of Zion.

I’m am in shock ! I always thought rabbi bernstein would be around forever….it just doesn’t sink it ! Rabbi bernstein you went too soon :/ but i know you are looking at us from outside of time and space now. You changed my entire view of Adam and eve and how freedom of choice was born….You made me fall in love with Jewish history…Every single time i’m not able to do the mitzvah ( even this morning) i could hear your voice -“ Do the best you can ! “ ….This is something my entire family sitting here in India now says… I will never forget how you always reminded me - Use the hebrew word for soul….or is it kahal or kehila or edah how is it defined ? These ring in my ear every single time of study……. I don’t think we can ever forget you….your laugheter, teachings and insights are being passed on literally across generations…. I’m going to miss you so much….and i’m going to try to hold on to every bit you’ve taught us and we will pass it on…..Every single time we eat paneer butter masala we think of you …Can’t wait to meet you and study with you again ……

Your love for your parrot and watching him lovingly sit on your shoulder during the torah classes - is etched in my mind.

Rebbetzin Roni, i’m sorry this was so soon…..i can’t even  imagine your grief. May you find great comfort in Yeshua and all israel surrounding you at this time.

It was wonderful to sit in class listening to Rabbi Bernstein.  He always had the capacity to blow your mind with new ways to understand concepts you thought you already knew.  He will truly be missed……

From the community in Malaysia: Rabbi Bernstein has made an impact on all of us as a model of our faith and through his teachings even to the other side of the globe. Although only some of us were able to meet him face to face, he has truly been a light in guiding our entire community to walk in the path of Yeshua and the Torah and we will miss him. We are mourning together, and are incredibly grateful to HaShem as well as Rebbetzin Roni and family for sharing him with us for the past years. May HaShem grant comfort, strength and healing to all the hearts broken by this loss.

Where should I start yet where should I finish; a never ending story of friendship well over 20 years in the making, you left too soon without saying a proper farewell, we had lunch plans to celebrate your birthday and Roni’s retirement, but let’s make it a rain check for the time being. You taught me everything about the financial services industry, and it is because of you and Roni that I came back into it, thank you for giving me an opportunity to never disappoint you or Roni. My dear friend, in our next lives please teach me again a little bit more about everything. We can meet again in Bogotá and have the chicken soup you loved so much. From the bottom of my aching heart, Giovanni and Paola.

I have listened to Rabbi Bernstein's teachings through Ahavat Ammi for the past 5 years.  I am thankful to HaShem for leading me to Rabbi Shapira, who led me to Rabbi Bernstein.  Rabbi's memory will always be a blessing to me.  I will think of him with tears and laughter whenever I listen to Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack (which I do often)!  Thank you to Rebbetzin Roni for sharing your wonderful husband with me & countless others.   You are the blessing behind the man.

Rabbi was a ninja!

Yes, I mean that in the martial arts sense, but in others areas too. 

He was a master of compassion, of teaching, of Torah, of Talumidic logic, counselor and leadership.  Over the the last 10 years I have seen countless times someone break down in tears because of the kindness found in Rabbi’s teaching. I include myself in that innumerable group. 

He left us far too soon, leaving us broken hearted. But he did not leave us weak, he left us stronger and kinder due to his larger than life influence. 

Also he was apparently a master of the bottle dance!

We will miss him. But we will never forget him. Ever.

My deepest condolences to the Bernstein family.  Rabbi Bernstein made such a deep impact on my studies and such a peaceful and strong, Teacher and Rabbi. I wished to convey to you my deepest condolences and those of the entire French Yeshivat Shuvu.

Rabbi Berstein has been a great source of blessing on my spiritual journey. Although I only met him personally once in Belgium in 2018, he has had a significant impact on my life through his teachings and advice. I treasure in my heart the last piece of practical advice he gave us about 2 weeks ago on how to immerse yourself in a mikve. It was the answer to a question that had been in my heart for several months!!

Certainly his memory is and will be a great source of blessing for all the people he taught and worked with.

Saddened by the news of Rabbi Bernstein's passing. My condoleance to rebbetzin Roni and the family and friends of our dear Rabbi Bernstein. His passing is a great loss to many: to his wife, his family, for our yeshiva, but even more to the world. For Rabbi Bernstein was more than just a rabbi/teacher, he was a giant and a tzaddik in his wisdom, kindness and humility. Rabbi Bernstein taught me a lot about Judaism and how to practice Messianic Judaism.  He could explain difficult topics about Judaism at a very easy way to understand. Our own Messianic Baal Shem Tov. He is a great example for many and one of my favourite teachers.

May HaShem write his name in the book of eternal life, knowing his neshamah joined Ein Sof, the Eternal One whom is beyond time and space. May He comfort his wife and family and all those who mourn.  Baruch Dayan ha'emet, his memory will be a blessing.

He was a great Rabbi, Tzaddik and a true Hassid. He was an excellent teacher and was strict and supportive. Always looked at the positive and brighter side of things, Just like his famous story of the child in the glass room full of horse dung shouting weeee … throwing the dung up and playing with it and saying there has to be a pony near by. The words and his actions when he related this story still resonates in my mind.

Losing a tzaddik Rabbi is worse than losing riches. We will keep you alive in our minds by following your studies and teachings.

Rabbi Bernstein's love for the Torah has inspired me in so many ways, and his teachings have had a deep impact on my life. The way I live my life today has so much to do with his example. He was a great teacher and a great tzaddik. 
I was so blessed to have him as a teacher and to have met him physically in Orlando 3 years ago. I remember he was happy, joking around, and smiling. I want to keep this image in my mind. I was looking forward to seeing him again this year, but although it's not possible now, I know we will see each other in the world to come.

Since I live in Belgium we never met but I have been greatly influenced by rabbi Bernstein and am utterly thankful for this. I cannot summarize what all it did to me to have experienced his example of the serving teacher of a level I never observed before.  Being introduced to his way of reasoning together, putting the Jewish way of thinking next to the Christian way of thinking allowed me to realize how much my thinking need to be changed, to see things through the lens of Jewish eyes....there is no way to say how much we have received. He lived his live for us to raise to a higher spiritual level, what an honor to have been able for 5 Yeshiva years to receive this. Our family was deeply saddened to learn of our beloved Rabbi, Steven Bernstein’s passing. 
Rabbi Bernstein is a great light.  His brilliance continues to illuminate our hearts and minds. He was, and remains, a beacon of light, radiating warmth, wisdom, and love in every corner of our community.
His devotion to the Torah was evident in every lesson he imparted, every word he shared. Through his teachings, he illuminated the path of righteousness, guiding us with unwavering dedication and passion. His love for Torah was palpable, igniting a flame within each of us as we gathered to study and learn together.
But beyond his scholarly pursuits, Rabbi Bernstein's light shone brightest in his love for you, his beloved Rebbetzin. I don't think that there was ever a time when we were around Rabbi Dr. Bernstein where there wasn't a smile on his face.  There was always a kind countenance and an encouraging word.  Rabbi Steve has made such a difference in our lives  as well as many others.  During this conference we stood in front of Rabbi and Rebbetzin during the Shabbat Service. In a previous congregation we attended we were taught to bend the knee and bow at every mention of the word "Baruch". He leaned over the chairs and spoke softly, lovingly but authoritatively and said, "Stop bowing". His love of Am Yisrael and to teach halakha forever endures in our hearts and minds. We have been truly blessed by his influence.

My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones on the loss of such a Great Rabbi. His bright spirit, enthusiasm and smile will always be remembered. He was a great teacher and mentor to us all.

Rabbi Bernstein was a great teacher.

Over a year ago, I was struggling with my faith. Life and work had pulled me away from seeking after Hashem with all of my heart, soul, and mind and I was miserable for it. One day, I was scrolling on YouTube when one of Rabbi Bernstein's messages popped up. It's because of that video that I enrolled in Shuvu. His teaching style and heart really spoke to me. Though I did not go through all the courses in Shuvu (as I should of,) I faithfully watched the teachings from Rabbi Bernstein. He was a fantastic teacher. Hashem used Rabbi to keep me in the faith and not abandoned Yeshua as Messiah. In fact, he is the one person on this side of Heaven that truly discipled me. Without his clarity, his wisdom, and godliness, I do not know where I would be today. This hits hard as I just lost my father in March. But, I felt that God had placed Rabbi in my life to give me the tools to deal with life, death, and reality from a Biblical worldview. I am forever grateful for that. That is a legacy that I hope to leave when it is my turn to move on to the next life. I am grateful and filled with hope knowing that I will actually get to see Rabbi again. 

Roni, my heart goes out to you right now. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me via your Zoom teachings. You both are beautiful souls and have personally blessed my life. 💕

I will always remember Rabbi Dr. Steven Bernstein as a great teacher, mentor and a role model. This legacy will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to be a blessing to those who knew him and to all his Talmidim. May Hashem’s comfort be upon the family of Rabbi Bernstein.

Rabbi Bernstein was one of my main teachers in Yeshivat Shuvu.  I can't even begin to tell the lessons I learned from him.  I had the pleasure of praying with him many times and he even in prayer would find a teachable moment.  I will never forget being with him in Rome, Bogota and here in my home congregation. I would frequently call him for advice on my sermons.  May his memory be for a blessing.

Rabbi Bernstein helped me to understand Judasim in a tremendous way. I'm thankfully for the short 6 Month I had with him. He impacted me and my family tremendously.

To Rebbetzin Roni and the entire Bernstein family, I send my condolences to all of you with the sudden loss of Rabbi Bernstein.  As a talmid in Yeshiva Shuvu, over the past 3 years I have come to know and love Rabbi Bernstein as he gently and carefully explained concepts to me that were foreign.  I had many ‘ahah moments’ that he delighted in.  He was slow to speak and used the least number of words necessary to get his point across.  I have sat under the tutelage and mentorship of many in my career as a physician and yet I must admit that Rabbi Bernstein will always go down in my memory as my favorite and most impactful teacher of my life.  May I make him proud by becoming in the future the one who shares and teaches the wonderful nuggets of life, light and truth that he so passionately and lovingly poured into my life. I have been blessed since January of this year to sit at the Rabbi's feet through the Zoom lessons and learn Torah as never before.  His calmness and love to teach others his love for the Torah was always such a blessing.   His humor and insight added such a beautiful facet to learning.  

I look forward to meeting him in person and to thank him for fanning a flame to know the depth of the word of G-d as never before.  After each teaching, I was overwhelmed at the paradigm shift of what I had been taught for years that was contrary to the truth of the Torah.

I have been blessed by a Tzaddik that imparted his love of the Torah to all that would listen.

Words can’t express or convey the impact You’ve made in this world and especially in our community. I hear your words often as I take one mitzvah at a time. Though in shock and disbelief I want express my deepest condolences for the great loss of such a great Teacher and a Tzadik of blessed memory Rabbi Dr. Steve A Rabbi Dr. Steve A Bernstein.

Physically meeting him for the first and last time in the US was such a great honor, considering all that he taught us, the wisdom of the Torah. My quest for Theology was always challenged to say the least. He has always guided us through such deep waters of the Torah. 

Words would fail to fully describe what Rabbi Dr. Bernstein meant to us, in this regard he forever lives in our hearts.

Rabbi Steve was one of the most knowledgeable men I've have ever met.
 His heart was to share this knowledge and understanding for the benefit of the Kingdom. He had an ability to understand the times we are living in and the importance to empty himself into others. He was especially willing to train Gentiles to train other Gentiles. 
For years I had been a secret follower of his teachings, and eventually became his student.  
One time at the beginning of a service I felt a hand on my should and someone adjusting my tallit, I turned to look and it was him. He said to me, if you are going to wear it wear it right. He smiled and walked away. 
Many people say they care and they love you, but few demonstrate it by helping you.  
He has left a great legacy, an army of gentiles in particular, all over the world. 
We will continue to benefit and teach others from what he graciously and willingly gave us.
One of the greatest things he demonstrated was how to teach delicate and uncomfortable biblical teachings with dignity, respect and most importantly honesty. 
Myself, my family and congregation will perpetuate his legacy.

Rabbi Bernstein you truly ARE a mensch!! 
I love and appreciate you! We will miss you, and at the same time we are glad you are pain free. 
Enjoy living outside of time and space! You are now experiencing what you spoke of constantly.
