Virginia (Ginny) Lee Patter, Age 84, of Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away on April 20, 2024, after seven years in assisted living/memory care, due to progressive challenges of dementia. Ginny was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 6, 1939, to Norman and Margaret (Corpus) Young. Her husband James Patrick (Pat) predeceased her by nine years and her brother Robert Norman (Bob) by seven years.
Ginny received her high school diploma in 1956 from South Comprehensive High School and worked as a switchboard operator at Bell Telephone until marrying James Patrick Patter on October 3, 1964. In the early 70’s they moved to Peters Township to raise their two young children. Ginny was the domestic engineer of the Patter household her entire married life and was actively engaged in her children’s sports and extra-curricular activities, serving as the township soccer registrar and a girl scout ‘cookie mom’, as well as attending countless soccer and volleyball matches. She also enjoyed playing the slot machines and sunning poolside. After Pat’s retirement from Westinghouse/Schindler Elevator Company, they relocated to Lehigh, FL to be near their adult children and enjoy the warm weather. In Ginny’s later years, she was a doting caregiver to her husband who struggled with lung disease.
Ginny leaves behind her son, Jeffrey James and daughter, Jennifer Lee (Randall) Faber. A private family cremation service is planned. To honor Ginny, please consider a donation made to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908 or online at www.MoreHope.org.
