"Bill" "Billy" "Uncle Bill" "Coach Brooks"
Passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 9, 2014 from a heart attack at his home.
Bill was born in Miami Florida on January 18, 1954 to the Late, William Gerald Brooks " Jerry" and Rose Marie Armstrong.
Bill grew up mostly in the Lee county area where he was a friend, athlete, hard worker and a family man.
When Bill was growing up he played for the Ft Myers Little League Baseball and he also played on the first Ft Myers Rebels Pop Warner Football team as their quarterback. ( this is where his love for football grew )
Bill graduated from Cypress Lake High School in 1973, where he was on the swim team and the quarterback for the football team, earning a lot of recognition for his talent and respect from his peers.
After high school, Bill went on to college attending West Liberty State College, West Virginia, and then to Bethel College, in Texas, studying business and also playing quarterback for their football teams.
Bill moved back to Lee County and worked here for a couple of years till he went to West Palm Beach where he started his career in the Golf Course Industry .While in West Palm, Bill was missing his brother David and family, so he would commute back and forth every day during football season to coach beside his brother for the Ft Myers Rebels Pop Warner Football Association. He loved coaching these boys and taught them to have respect , integrity, and the love of the game. Some of these boys, Bill would later coach them on their high school football teams. Bill moved back and continued to coach for the Ft Myers Rebels for 15 years. You could go anywhere and you would hear "hey Coach Brooks" and he would smile from ear to ear.
When Bill came back to Lee County he started working for The Landings Yacht, Golf and Tennis Club. While working full time for The Landings, Bill continued to coach football in the area high schools . Bill quit coaching football 2 years ago because he felt he needed to be around the Landings while renovations were going on. Bill was truly dedicated to The Landings. He was their Grounds and Golf Course Superintendent. He was so proud of that course and all the work he and his guys put into it.He loved showing it off and he loved introducing the residents to family and friends, because the residents Loved Bill..he worked hard and his reputation is proof of that.
