Janet “Jan” (Sibley) Lemieux, 87, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026. Born on October 1, 1938, in Oxford, Massachusetts, she was the eldest of nine children born to Charles and Gertrude (Flagg) Sibley.
After attending Oxford Public Schools, Jan began working as a waitress in local restaurants during her teenage years. Over time, she worked in retail at Denholm’s and MKM Hosiery Mill before becoming a supervisor at Thom McCann, where she remained for many years.
In 1969, Jan married the love of her life, Ray Lemieux. Together, they built a warm and joyful home in their farmhouse in West Millbury, Massachusetts, filled with family, cookouts, and pool parties. Jan’s greatest joy was in the kitchen, creating delicious dishes, often with the cheerful backdrop of Julia Child or the Home Shopping Network.
Jan and Ray also shared a passion for ice cream, opening and running the iconic Ice Cream Barn for several years. The shop became a local staple, not just for its ice cream, but for Jan’s renowned homemade soup, enjoyed even in the hottest weather.
Jan and Ray loved camping, taking many cross-country adventures in their motor home. They were devoted members of Indian Ranch in Webster, Massachusetts, and Ramblewood Village in Zephyrhills, Florida.
Jan is survived by her children, Sheila Murphy and Marc (Bonnie) Lemieux; her stepsons, Ronald and Glenn Lemieux; eight grandchildren, Aziza, Nicole, Danielle (Victor), Alyssa, Roxanne, Veronica, Kayla (Andrew), and Ryan; and five great-grandchildren, Rayna, Antonia, Adaline, Kinsley, and Chase. She is also survived by her siblings, Jeffrey (Gary), Jimmy, Judy, and Joan, along with her beloved dog, Jacob.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Ray, who passed away just two months earlier after nearly 57 years together; her son, Timothy Murphy; her brothers, John, Jay and Joey; her sister, Joyce; and her grandson, Derek.
Jan will be remembered for her boundless love, generosity, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
