Maria Francisca Vieira was born December 28, 1930 in Belem, Brazil to Palo and Matilda Vieira. She was raised with a large family, and eventually began to raise some of the children herself. Her family included three additional brothers and sisters some of who migrated to the United States, where she followed. Maria was a gifted Chef and served dignitaries like the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Florida Senator Connie Mack as well as hundreds in and around Merritt Island, Florida. Maria would soon become a surgical room assistant at Holmes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, Florida where she retired.
Maria spent the last 18 years of her long life with her nephew, Colonel Carlos Halcomb, USAF (Ret), and his wife Dr. Doris Ferres-Halcomb from Vero Beach, Florida. As the matriarch of the large family, she was always surrounded by three generations of children she helped to raise. She is survived by her sister, Marilia Cathcart of California, and brother Anibal Pimental of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Ft Pierce, Florida on Saturday, August 6, 2023 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, Maria would ask that you donate to the American Cancer Society.
