

Mary Philomena Damato, age 93, of Vero Beach, FL passed away peacefully on August 14, 2017 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of her beloved husband of 53 years, Matthew.
Mary was born in Waterbury, CT on March 1, 1924, the daughter of the late Salvatore “Sam” and Faustina (DeGregorio) Massaro. She was the eldest of six children and cherished the tender love and guidance given by her devout Catholic parents. In her teens, she was employed by the Naugatuck Glass Company. Later, she received her certification for “Nursing Assistant”. For 27 years, she received such gratification assisting the elderly patients in convalescent homes. Mary had a genuine quality; “the gift of giving” was her treasure.
Throughout her charitable life, Mary acquired a deep love for God. In addition to her family, attending daily Mass was one of the greatest joys of her life as was spending a lot of her time in prayer. She was the heart of her family and will be remembered for the abundant love and strength she gave to so many.
She is survived by her devoted son, Anthony Damato; daughter, Carmella Comboni and her husband, Stephen; two sisters, Philomena Scalo (Edgewater, FL) and Helen Massaro; three brothers, Pasquale Massaro, Anthony Massaro (Waterbury, CT) and Reverend Michael Massaro of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday August 16th, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Aycock Funeral Home, 6026 US Highway 1 in Fort Pierce, FL 34946. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday August 17th, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 2355 82nd Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32966. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 6026 US Highway 1, and Fort Pierce, FL 34946.
