McDougall Donald Anthony, Fort Qu’Appelle, SK. - On Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at 87 years of age, Dad faded from away from us. He was born in his family's home June 12, 1925 on the NW 10-20-13-W2 near Wide Awake School, the youngest of eight siblings. During his childhood, Dad's family lived on and rented different farms near the valley, eventually settling on "the Schaller place" where they resided until well after Dad moved away from home. Dad started school at Redrows and completed high school in Lebret. He had a sound formal education (thank you, Sisters), but, mostly, he educated himself. He was a gifted artist and writer; he had great vocabulary and math skills. He was an excellent mechanic and carpenter and was well known by everyone for his sharp wit. In short, he was a renaissance man. In 1950 he married an exceptional woman, Fern Hummason. Farming and the Qu'Appelle Valley were in his blood, and for most of his adult life, he was as happy as a man can be, married to Fern, farming and raising a family on the edge of the valley. He is survived by his dear companion, Kathy Sloan; two sisters, Sr. Margaret of Antigonish, Nova Scotia and Helen Peterson, of Roseville, California; three sons, Tom (Kathi), Cameron (Inga) and Doug (Rosemarie); eight grandchildren, Christine (Regan), Cam, Ian, Julia, Lee (Breanna), Darcy, Kieran, and Jayson. He was predeceased by our Mom, Fern in 1994, and by his brothers: Finley, Gerald, Alex, and John, and his sister Anne. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in St. John’s Anglican Church Hall, Fort Qu'Appelle,Sk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Echo Lodge Auxiliary, Box 1790, Fort Qu'Appelle, S0G 1S0. Arrangements in care of Tubman Cremation and Funeral Services (1-800-667-8962)
