On Saturday May 6, 2023, Elsie went home peacefully to be with Jesus at the age of 91 years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was ready to be with her siblings, her parents and her husband. Her energy and drive to make things happen will be remembered by her family, friends and community.
Elsie was predeceased by her husband Leonard Huber; parents Adam and Emma Misakewicz; siblings: Erna (Harold) Galenzoski, Martha (Robert) Scheuer, John (Delphine) Misakewicz, and Erhardt Misakewicz.
She is survived by her four children: Gwen (Dennis) Fex of Regina, Darwin (Gina) Huber of Lipton, Dwayne (Charlene) Huber of Regina and Kellen (Janice) Huber of Grand Coulee; grandchildren Colette (Shaun) Moore, Sean Fex, Joshua (Marika) Huber, Jillian Huber, Jarett Huber, Kelsey Huber, Sierra Huber, Austin Huber and Mackenzie Huber; great-grandchildren Bryson Huber and Karlee Huber; in-laws Harold Karius, Beatrice Schmidt, Gerald and Jeanne Huber, Marlene and Wes Smith and Marie Misakewicz; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Elsie was born in Southey on January 8, 1932 to parents Emma and Adam Misakewicz. She was raised on a farm and learned how to work hard and did whatever needed to be done, especially the cooking. As a young woman she moved to Regina and worked at the Regina General Hospital. Elsie first met Leonard at a young people’s group at Grace Lutheran Church. Leonard was a salesman for Simpsons Sears at that time, so he took this opportunity to go to her house with the intention of asking her out on a date. They went to a dance at the Trianon Ballroom in Regina, and their story began. They were later married on February 11, 1956 in the Trinity Lutheran church. They were blessed with one daughter and three sons. They raised their children on the family farm and then in 1990 moved to the town of Lipton. Elsie worked for some time with the Fort Qu’Appelle Homecare Association, which she greatly enjoyed.
Her life was filled with family, preparing meals, gardening and community events like perogie making, bowling, curling, quilting and church volunteering. Each family member has one quilt or more made by her hands.
The funeral service was held in Lipton Memorial Hall on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with officiant Pastor Bradley Julien. A public visitation took place in Lipton Hall prior to the service from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment in Lipton Memorial Gardens.
