

EFFA - It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our mother, grandmother and wife Jean on Friday December 2. Jean was 79 years of age. She was born May 18, 1932 to Otto and Alfrieda Schmidt on the farm in Springside district. One of five siblings, Jean received her education at Good Luck School Division in the Springside district. It was in Springside that Jean met, fell in love with and married Harvey Effa June 22, 1956. They made their home in Springside then Oxbow and eventually settling in Fort Qu'Appelle for the remainder of her life. She so much loved the outdoors and participated in sporting activities such as curling and bowling. Her family was her greatest joy and she was always there for all of us. Jean was predeceased by her parents Otto and Alfreida Schmidt, a daughter Rhonda in infancy; one sister Irene (Bill) Matkowski and is survived by her husband Harvey; their children Mitchel (Joan) and their family Leah (Greg) Reid and their daughter Eve, Julie (Sean), Cindy (Lyle) and son Jordan; Lisa, Melanie and her children Taylor and Travis, her sisters and brother; Esther Grodeski, Herb (Iris) Schmidt; Jeanette (Elvin) Riess and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Fort Qu'Appelle, SK on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael L. Keith officiating. Cremation with interment in Springside cemetery will take place at a later date. We would like to thank all the staff at Echo Lodge for their special care she received over the years.
