It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Garry Kerr in Fort Qu’Appelle on July 13, 2023, at the age of 91. His adventurous spirit and deep involvement in his community will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born on April 30, 1932 in Wawota, Saskatchewan, Garry had a deceptively quiet demeanor while at the same time embracing life and pursuing his passions with enthusiasm. Throughout much of his working life, Garry served at the Prairie Christian Training Centre, where he earned widespread admiration for his dedication and contributions. He was also an active member of his community and was particularly enthusiastic about acting. Notably, he was honored by being admitted to the Saskatchewan Theatre Hall of Fame in recognition for his passion for acting.
Garry had a surprisingly adventurous side, especially in his retirement years. He wholeheartedly embraced his love for travel, and even some thrill-seeking pursuits. Garry explored destinations from Egypt to Vietnam and the Amazon, and fearlessly pursued outdoor activities, even taking up skydiving later in life. His zest for life and sense of wonder were unmistakable whenever he shared stories of his journeys.
Garry cherished his relationships with family and friends. His warm presence and kind-hearted nature touched the lives of many. While his passing has left a void in the lives of those who loved him, his legacy of adventure, passion, and community engagement will continue. Garry will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service honoring Garry's remarkable life was held in St. Andrew’s United Church, Fort Qu’Appelle on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jo Mader officiating. Cremated remains will be interred in Wawota Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Andrew's United Church, Box 126, Fort Qu'Appelle, SK S0G 1S0.
