Left to mourn and cherish her memory are her sons, Kelly (Cindy), Brian (Nicole), and Scott (Sherri). She adored her grandchildren, Brad (Danielle), Jeff (Brianne), Kassia, Toby and great-grandchildren Raina and Asher. Her sister Delores (Don) Cochrane, their children Greg (Del), Terry (Josh and Cody) and Wanda, her brother Darcy (Cheryl) Scherle as well as many other relatives and close friends will always remember her for her kindness and courage.
Joyce was born in Earl Grey, Sask. on October 2nd, 1936 and attended a country school. She completed her Grade 12 in Earl Grey while boarding at the local doctor’s home. The doctor recognized her caring and determined spirit and encouraged Joyce to go into nursing, a career of which she was very proud. Joyce was always ready to help with friends or family members in health crisis.
Joyce’s true love was family and she became known as the super mom. Joyce and her husband Bill supported their children’s activities including their love of baseball. Lions Park in Regina could have had a second name (Babcock Ballpark) as the boys, Bill and Joyce spent many hours there as coaches, players, umpires, announcers and proprietors of the food concession. Joyce continued this encouragement with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whether it was sporting events, dance recitals or school productions.
Joyce took a leave from her nursing career to help her husband and his partners set up Reliable Stationers and enjoyed a number of years working at Reliable Drafting Supplies.
In 1981 they built their home at Katepwa Beach with Bill’s brother Lawrence supervising a lot of family manpower in the construction. In 1987 they moved to Katepwa full time and the beach home became a center for the kids, grandkids and extended family. Bill and Joyce also participated in running the Katepwa beach store/restaurant/concession for a number of years.
Joyce spent the last five years living at Broadway Terrace in Regina and enjoyed the friendship and small town atmosphere there. She took an active part in helping with the flower gardens and enjoyed the friendship of the other residents and the staff. Joyce learned how to play the ukulele at Broadway and participated in all of the social activities. She often commented how much she loved it there
Joyce was definitely a positive force of nature. We learned from her that life will present obstacles but they are things to be overcome by putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward. We miss her deeply.
