Merv spent the majority of his early life in Grenfell where he had his first job at the age of 12 and developed a strong work ethic. Merv and Sandy were married in Neudorf in 1967. In 1973, Merv and Sandra moved to Pense, where they raised their three boys. That same year, Merv started Mervin’s Trailer Hauling, where he dedicated 27 years doing what he loved.
After he retired, the love of trucking was still in his blood, so he continued to do long-distance hauling for several years. In 1995, Merv and Sandra moved to Fort Qu’Appelle. His final retirement came when he started his new business, Kell-Kar Holdings Mini Storage which he referred to as the easiest job he ever had.
Family was most important to Merv. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved fishing whether it was trips with his boys (no girls allowed) or ice fishing with his Pense buddies. He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards, dice and visiting.
He always had an engineering mind and could make and fix anything. He enjoyed country and gospel music and could be heard whistling in the garage or during church. He spent many years on the property committee of the St. Andrews United Church and was a loyal church member.
