On May 23, 2013, at the age of 84, Betty Shorter, beloved wife, mother and grandmother
passed away after a brave battle with cancer. She died peacefully with John, her husband of 54 years, at her side. Betty will be lovingly remembered and missed by her two sons Michael (Sharon) and Adrian (Linda) and her two wonderful grandchildren, Breanna and Kendra.
Betty was born in Killaloe, Ireland and trained as a teacher, specializing in elementary education. Her profession took her to several countries, including Bahrain, where she met and married John. They moved to Canada in 1968 and settled in Fort McMurray, where Betty continued to teach and raise her two sons.
Betty had a good life and enriched many young peoples’ lives through her love of teaching.
During her final battle with cancer Betty was cared for by Dr. R. Juta and the nursing staff of the palliative care group at Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital, to whom we are most grateful.
At her request, no service is being held at this time.
