Anita "Jeannie" Porter

Jeannie belonged to the Delta Delta Delta Sorority at the University of Arkansas where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught 3rd grade in Tulsa and substituted for years in the Fort Smith Public School System, and she was a Bridal Consultant for Dillard’s Department Store. She was an active member of the Fort Smith Junior League and St. John’s Episcopal Church, and was a former Board Member of Girl’s Inc. She volunteered countless hours to serve the community. Most of all, Jeannie loved her family and friends. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She is survived by one daughter, Julia & husband Nathan Plowman of Portland, OR; two sons, Paul and Steven Porter of Fort Smith; two sisters, Ann & husband Fred Topham of Oakhurst, CA and Martha Framel of Tulsa, OK; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Naomi “Sissy” Steele; three brothers, Buddy, Elmer, and Don Smith.

Memorial service will be Friday, December 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Episcopal Church with inurnment in the St. John’s Columbarium all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends in the Parish Hall of St. John’s Episcopal Church following the memorial service.
