Tony was born April 22, 1925 in Paris, Arkansas to Anton and Regina (Zimmer) Limberg. Three of his four grandparents were German immigrants. He was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, an infant and Charles Robert Limberg; and his beloved wife of 59 years, Virginia “Gretchen” (Kaemmerling) Limberg. He is survived by his three children: Suzi Uptergrove, Debby Atchley and husband Alan, all of Hot Springs; and Larry and wife Terri Limberg of Boise, Idaho; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Tony described himself as a “cradle Catholic” who was raised in a Christian home. He spent the majority of his life in Fort Smith, where he attended parochial schools, including St. Boniface and St. Anne’s. In 1946, Tony became a First Sergeant in the Arkansas Guard, a military force that performed homeland duties while the Arkansas National Guard was still overseas. He met Gretchen when he was serving as a charter officer of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). They were married on October 9, 1947 at St. Boniface. As a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Tony and Gretchen were active in the charismatic Catholic movement, were charter leaders of the "In His Presence" Prayer Group, and were Oblates of St. Benedict – St. Scholastica Monastery. Tony was employed by Arkansas Motor Freight (AMF) which later became Arkansas-Best Freight System, Inc. (ABF). He worked for ABF for 42 years in Hot Springs; Malvern; Syracuse, New York; and Fort Smith. After retirement, Tony served as a Eucharistic Minister for the church. He also enjoyed travelling, working in his yard, and eating any kind of ice cream.
