

Betty Dye Kincannon, 88, of Barling, died February 23, 2014 in her home. She was born June 18, 1925, in Fort Smith, to the late Jay C. and Alma Zylstra Smith. Betty moved to Fremont, Ohio at the age of 9 and went on to graduate from Ross High School. In 1943 she moved back to Fort Smith and went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone, working the cord board and in the business office. She retired from the telephone company, in 1980, with over 34 years of service. She was Past President of the Telephone Pioneers. Betty enjoyed life, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the outdoors, fishing, water skiing and camping. She also loved playing cards, as long as she won, bowling and dancing.
With her first husband, John Dye, who died in 1982, she is survived by her daughter Dana Crabtree of Canadian, Oklahoma and four sons, Darrell Opine of Mena, Stephen Dye of Greenwood, Michael Dye of Fort Smith and Jay Dye of Paris. With her second husband, Joseph Kincannon, who she married in 1986, she is survived by three step daughters, Melinda Vest of Wichita, Kansas, Betty Jo Rivaldo of Lavaca and Cynthia Abel of Barling; one sister Billie Marie Dunn of Oklahoma City; twenty two grandchildren and thirty one great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe.
Funeral services will be 10:00am Friday, February 28 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Pastor Josh Willadsen. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00pm Thursday, February 27 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Billy Dyer, Jeff and Joey Abel, Bannon Dye, Dustin Opine and Joshua Crabtree.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to First Lutheran School, 1115 North D Street, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
