Billy Joe Gibson, 63 of Fort Smith went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. He was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on May 13, 1958 to Billie Joe Gibson and Mary Ann Leonard. He graduated from Southside High School in 1976 and attended Westark Community College.
He recently retired from Rheem Manufacturing after 20 years of service and was loved by his coworkers. He attended Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church. Billy was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his sons and volunteering at The First Tee of Fort Smith. He also loved playing league softball and coaching baseball as well as attending his daughter’s soccer matches. Nothing was more enjoyable than watching his children excel in their own endeavors. He enjoyed cruising around town in his classic Corvette but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family.
Billy was preceded in death by his stepmother, Sonnie Gibson and stepfather, RA Leonard.
Billy is survived by his parents Billie Joe Gibson and Mary Ann Leonard, his three children, Colby Gibson, Kressa Schuett (Blake) and William Gibson (Mattie), brother Ben Gibson, sister Mitzi Gibson (Trisha Cooper) and brother Wes Young (Linda); sisters, Pam Williams (Ronnie), Kim Winn (Jeff), and Tammy Bull. He also leaves 5 grandchildren, Nora, Lee and Hayes Schuett and Huntley and Gunnar Gibson.
Celebration of Life will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 18 at Cavanaugh Freewill Baptist Church followed by burial at Steep Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 17 from 5-7 pm at Edwards Funeral Home.
Active Pallbearers will be Reggie Milburn, Tab Person, Robert Ness, Dave Richmond, Wes Riley, and Eddie Knight.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Reitzel, Billy Swink, Mike Higgins, Anthony Morrison, and Stanley Releford.
